The history of the creation of palm jumeirah. Artificial islands in Dubai, Arab Emirates Palm island in the UAE

If they create new wonders of the world these days, they do it in Dubai. To see one of them, you will have to go to Jumeirah, one of the prestigious areas and go down to the bay.
Palm Islands named an archipelago consisting of three artificially created islands. For them, the shape of the trees revered in these places - date palms - has been chosen. Each got its own name - Palm Jumeirah (Palm Jumeirah) built first, Palm Jebel Ali (Palm Jebel Ali), the largest Palm Deira (Palm Deira). Small islands complement the unusual picture. The constituents "Universe" and "World" are smaller archipelagos of simple form.
Believe it or not, this engineering masterpiece took construction company Nakheel only 10 to 15 years to come true. No country in the world has yet managed to create something similar. Initially, the project seemed beautiful, but at the same time fantastic and not suitable for implementation in the material. But the creators managed to think through the whole course of action and from the very beginning of the work did not deviate from the plan. The speed with which the work was proceeding amazed even people far from construction.
The project relied on the results of a survey of this part of the Persian Gulf, a relatively shallow and wide strip of the continental shelf. To create a solid and reliable "foundation", a huge volume of stone and sand had to be lowered to the seabed.
To protect the erected islands from severe storms, it was necessary to surround them with a strip of barrier reefs. Even here, the authors did not simplify their task by giving the reefs around the second palm tree the shape of Arabic script letters. The blue waves of the bay slide along the lines of poems by Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, who ruled in the past Dubai... And the islands that rose from the water became proof of what he wrote - sincere faith in a dream and wisdom can create an unthinkable miracle.
It is impossible to say how many years work will be carried out on Palm islands- there are still many improvements or additions in the project. But this does not detract from the merits of what has already been created, and real estate on bulk archipelagos is in demand among the elite and celebrities.
After the completion of all work in Dubai, a separate paradise will appear. Everything is designed for the comfort of wealthy guests and residents - numerous entertainment complexes, sandy beaches and green parks, golf courses, luxury hotels, and nightclubs.

Palm jumeirah

Prior to the recognition of the Palm Jumeirah modern miracle the light did not last long - what can compare with this small artificial archipelago, which really looks like a stylized image of a palm tree. It is the smallest of the three palm islands, a project by Nakheel, a well-known construction company.
Only five years passed between the laying of the islands and the beginning of their development. The coastline stretches for about 520 km, and the total area is eight hundred football fields... You can get to the mainland via a 300m long bridge connecting them. An underwater car tunnel with three lanes (in both directions) leads from the shore to the crescent-shaped defenses.
Palm Jumeirah is the most popular among the resorts of the emirate.
Now there are more than twenty operating hotels and entire complexes, arranged with the present oriental luxury... For those who prefer a measured rest in a quiet warm sea this is ideal.The islands are no less interesting for divers - artificial reefs at different depths, brought and flooded old planes and many other original ideas will make diving unforgettable.
The palm tree is divided into three parts. Parks, several restaurants and large shopping centers... There, among the greenery, there are residential complexes where wealthy connoisseurs of comfort and beautiful views offer a variety of apartments of any size - from modest one-room to luxurious, four or more rooms in 20 multi-storey buildings.From them opens beautiful view to the Persian Gulf, to the banks of the channel dividing the "Trunk" into two parts. The palm tree has a "crown" in the form of symmetrical "branches" spread out in the sea. There are seventeen of them, each with villas, different in size and design, arguing among themselves in luxury and richness of decoration and furnishings. There are almost fifteen hundred of them.

Its purpose at the "Crescent" - it was created to protect the rest of the archipelago that surrounds. The "Crescent" area is given over to hotels. The most famous hotel chains are represented here. Surprisingly, the resulting mix of architectural styles doesn't seem annoying or out of place. The Venetian style is adjacent to the Japanese building, further you can see the Brazilian or strict European classics.
The main transport connection with Dubai is the monorail high-speed train.

Palm jebel ali

As gorgeous as the Palm Jumeirah is, on the second island Palm jebel ali there is a chance to surpass it in originality. For the man-made island, the site was chosen closer to the Jebel Ali harbor, the largest in the world.
The island began to be poured a year later, in 2002. The work took five years, and the construction itself was launched only in 2009. It is known that there are plans to build a larger island city nearby - "Dubai Waterfort".
It is still far from the completion of construction - plans that are too big take time for their implementation. In addition to business centers, a part of the island will be given over to villas and bungalows. And the spit, the protection of the island from the sea, is intended for amusement parks. Busch Gardens is set to become the most modern amusement park in the emirate, attracting children and adults alike. In addition to it, there is also Discovery Cove Aquatica and Marine Sea World. The breakwaters are no less original designed - a giant killer whale, etc. For the entertainment of tourists, a real sea village is being built, where, in addition to a huge aquarium, water super-attractions are installed.
Unfortunately, the decline in oil prices is reflected in financing and construction timeframes. Perhaps part of the project will be postponed until a more prosperous period.

Palm deira

The construction of the third Palma was the third stage in the creation of an artificial archipelago and began in 2004. Quite a lot is known about the project - Palm Deira should surpass the other two islands in size (5 and 8 times) and become the largest of all the islands created by man. It will have enough space for a million people. Initially, the construction completion date was announced - 2015. But the scale of work, their complexity and high cost, combined with a decline in the world economic level, do not allow meeting the deadline.
Palm Deir has 41 branches on a solid, wide trunk. There were many difficulties during the construction of the obligatory breakwater-crescent. It was planned that the island-palm tree will revive and decorate the old area, next to which it is being erected.

The World - the whole world in miniature

Arab sheikhs have long been famous for their love of luxury and grandiose projects. And oil revenues make it possible to translate the craziest and most fantastic ideas into reality in a short time. So it appeared "The World"- a small artificial archipelago of 300 islets. Each of them is a tiny copy of some country. When viewed from above, the outlines of the islands merge into a huge map of the world.

By January 2008, all the island countries were ready. The creators did not limit themselves to giving the islands the exact shape of the selected countries and continents. The design and atmosphere of the islands were reproduced in a characteristic national style respecting the main traditions.

A lot of work was invested in creating a comfortable environment for the residents and guests of Mir. They tried to bring every little thing to the limits of possible perfection. They succeeded - luxurious elegant villas and mansions against the backdrop of enchantingly serene landscapes with lakes and quiet parks seem to be a piece of a fairytale country. Such an island can be purchased for personal use. But for the opportunity to settle in your own warm country, you need to pay a very substantial amount. Although there are plenty of people willing.
Therefore, the idea of Sheikh Mohamed, the ruler of the emirate, can be called successful and profitable. As well as the choice of the developer company - Nakheel. Several foreign contractors were allowed to work. Most of the materials for the islands came from the Emirates.
The distance from the archipelago to the coast is only 4 km, but the construction of a bridge or a tunnel, like on the Palms, is not planned - only air and water transport... The owners of the "Paradise Islands" always have the opportunity to replenish their transport fleet with a helicopter or another yacht. Several pleasure ferries will be used for tourists and airships in the future.
So far, not all the islands have found themselves wealthy owners - except for Ireland, New Zealand and Australia, Greenland (Sheikh Maktum), Brunei, and Finland have been sold. Two last islands should eventually overshadow the European centers of luxury and fashion.
Twenty islands in the "North American" part of the archipelago are left to Nakhee. They will become a resort under nice name "Coral islands". In addition to marinas for small and large yachts and luxury hotels, there is a place for beautiful villages and other components. paradise for tourists.
The reaction to anthropogenic archipelagos can be different - ecologists are afraid of the impact on the bay and even the climate of the coast. Many people think that such projects are poorly compatible with the period economic crises... But it is impossible not to admire this wonderful creation of engineering and architectural thought that has arisen over several decades.

How does construction work on water?

Singapore, China and even Holland have made great strides in seizing part of the reservoirs for construction. But surpassing Dubai in this regard is quite difficult. The spectacular, fully artificial Palm Jumeirah archipelago - home to fabulously wealthy people - is built on 110 million cubic meters of sand dredged from the sea.

Palm Jumeirah was conceived as an idea of additional enrichment for the UAE. Jumeirah Island in Dubai, built in the form of a palm tree, gained fame as a superstructure, the appearance of which in the Persian Gulf is considered a miracle. The possibility of its creation was questioned even by the engineers who worked on this project. But, despite this, everything possible was done to make it a monument of luxury life for the whole world. The construction of Palm Island began after the first conquest of nature by man in Dubai - the construction of the Burj Al Arab dream hotel, which is a tower on an artificial island located 300 meters from the coast.

The fact is that there was a certain problem for mass tourism, since the coastline suitable for recreation was only 72 km. Sheikh Mohammed decided to build an island near the coast, designed to increase several times the natural coastline coast. Thus, the idea was born to create an island in the form of a palm tree as a symbol of the paradise of the world. Besides, big plus this shape was an increase in the coastline by as much as 56 km in comparison with the traditional round island.

Epic construction began in 2001 with completion planned for 2006.

During this period, an island was to be built in the sea, where luxury hotels, villas and shopping centers would be built. Such a task seemed very daring, but not for Sheikh Mohammed. He was not stingy at all and invested a lot of money in the work of the best consultants from around the world, as well as paying for the ever-increasing needs of construction. Mohammed's idea was to build the island from natural materials, using sand and stones, rather than reinforced concrete structures. Such requirements have created additional difficulties for builders. Every day they had to fight with natural forces, as the water ruthlessly washed away the stones and sand that were poured to build the island. Extensive research has been done on the effects of tides, wandering waves, storms, and even global warming. Fears for the creators of such a project were also caused by the so-called Shamal storm, which arises in these places.

It is interesting that the rock and sand for the construction of the island could be enough to build a wall 2.5 meters high, which would encircle the globe.

Dutch engineers were involved in the construction of all the necessary structures, since Holland had already managed to recapture 35% of its territory from the sea. Construction work went well until the towers of the World Trade Center in the United States were attacked by terrorists. As a result, the flow of tourists to the Middle East abruptly stopped. Beaches, hotels and restaurants were emptied, but no one began to suspend work on the creation of the Palm Jumeirah. Moreover, the project specialists were determined to leave at any moment.

To protect against the damaging effects of waves, Palm island had to be protected by breakwaters. For their construction, tons of sand and stones were poured on the bottom of the Persian Gulf, including huge blocks weighing about 6 tons extracted from 16 quarries throughout the UAE. They are held only by their mass and are not fastened with either iron or concrete. Every meter of the breakwater is carefully checked by divers to prevent the destruction of this protection. This powerful barrier against waves of length 11.5 kilometers rises on 3 meters in height. During its construction, the builders faced the Shamal storm, which raged for 3 weeks in 2002. They had no choice but to see if the unfinished breakwater would withstand the load. This simple one led to a creative decision - to continue to build separately the breakwater and the island-palm tree itself. This work was quite difficult, because without a ready-made breakwater, the island was defenseless against the destructive effects of the sea.

Construction site on Palm Jumeirah, Dubai

Construction was further complicated by the fact that it was important to observe the given outlines of the island, which was not so easy, because the branches of the palm tree were bent into a complex shape and it was very easy to get off. But here Dubai's access to the world's only private artificial satellite, who constantly took pictures during the work, so that the drawing of the island and the outlines of the palm tree were correct. During the work, many unexpected problems arose. For example, it turned out that the water near the island stagnates, and on paradise island it was unacceptable. The solution was found quickly and two breaks were made in the breakwater, allowing the water to be renewed.

The world's first artificial Palm Island grew in the Persian Gulf in 2 years. It took several more years to build 4,500 hotels, buildings and shopping centers. The process was not even interrupted by two strong earthquakes, which occurred near the construction site with a shock strength of about 6 points.

It was assumed that the island of Jumeirah would be populated by 120 thousand people, but after the presentation of the finished project to the public, all the houses were sold out in 3 days.

For the sake of celebrities and the richest people on the planet, it was decided to increase the number of buildings. This did not go unnoticed by nature - the island that appeared artificially in the bay influenced the coastline of the mainland. The movement of the waves has changed here and there is a real danger that it will be blurred, so the creators have to keep an eye on the sand constantly.

Jumeirah inspired the sheikh to build two more of the same islands in the form of a palm tree, which, along with other structures, extended the coast of Dubai from 72 km to 1,500 km.

For all the luxury and construction costs, Palm Island and other structures built on water make environmentalists worry. They argue that such interventions in environment wreak havoc on marine organisms and their habitats, and also destroy fish food - coral reefs. Construction on water also carries risks for residents, as these layers are not as stable as solid soil. Recently, there have been reports that Dubai's Palm Jumeirah is actually sinking. And yet, in the near future, progress may go even further and even more luxurious underwater houses may appear in the UAE. The Water Discus Hotel off the coast of Dubai will consist of an underwater and surface disc connected by a vertical shaft. But how all this will affect the oceans and underwater ecosystems remains to be seen.

Remember the ad for a chocolate bar: a girl with a beautiful figure is basking by a palm tree against the backdrop of a turquoise sea and drinking coconut milk? .. Today we will tell you about a place where you can not only feel heavenly pleasure, but also test your real feelings.

Palma - the "true" island

A small piece of land in the middle of the ocean, created by the eruption of an underwater volcano, today is buried in green gardens of indescribable beauty. Palma has become famous for its special atmosphere, which is often celebrated by those who have been there. And if other Canary Islands attract tourists active species sports and recreation on the flawless shores, then Palma has its own magic.

Being surrounded by "living" inanimate nature, a person returns to his essence, remembers the soul. Perhaps that is why there are such contradictory reviews about Palma: it attracts some, and repels others, forever.

Have you already felt the power of gravity? Then welcome to the island of Palma! It only covers 708 square kilometers, so we have no doubt that you will want to explore it all. And we anticipate the first question upon arrival.

Where can I rent a car?

It can be rented right at the airport, so don't rush to leave. To do this, you need to have a driver's (international) license, voucher and credit card... On this list required documents does not end, so we advise you to take care of the full package of documents in advance and book a car in advance. By the way, if you are under 21, the company may not give the car back. In some regions, the critical age reaches 23 years.

Rent a car to get more from Palma!

And finally, a couple of reminders about the rules of the road, which are highly recommended on the island of Palma:

  • at the pedestrian crossing it is necessary to let everyone pass. In this place it is not customary for pedestrians to fear for the driver's carelessness. In addition to people, goats, cats, dogs and rabbits can jump out on the road. Be careful, especially at night!
  • overtaking cars on the right is not accepted;
  • want to overtake a car in the leftmost lane? Turn on the left turn signal - they will understand you and give in;
    if you want to slow down, first stick out your hand to the left or turn on the left turn signal. This will warn those who follow you about the stop. On a mountain road with poor visibility before a turn - signal;
  • yellow markings prohibit parking the car;
  • the fine for speeding by 20 km / h will be € 100;
  • driving while intoxicated may face jail time;
  • and lastly, representatives of the traffic police do not take bribes

Accommodation on about. Palm

Now let's talk about housing. What do you want: a villa, a hacienda, a cottage or an apartment?

Fazenda has a long history within its walls. Sometimes she is two hundred years old. A cozy country house with gardens, a swimming pool and everything you need will plunge you into complete tranquility and give you an unforgettable experience. Weekly rent will cost at least € 300-400. The price may include cleaning, airport transfers, yacht rentals, and more.

Apartments on the island Palm is promised no less comfortable rest, but directly in the resort town, where, in addition to the pool and the terrace, you can see the beach and bars-restaurants nearby. Cost - from € 300.

Spacious villas will cost you € 1000 per week. And for those who like rest with an agro-cultural "touch", cottages are suitable: cozy small houses with a personal plot, a garden or a vegetable garden. You will have to pay € 350 and more for them.

Separately, I would like to tell you about one unique hotel for adults. Have you ever wanted to spend a couple of unforgettable days at the museum? The Hacienda de Abajo offers to stroll past the relics and feel like an exhibit in a sense. The history of the estate begins in the 16th century, but it was opened only in 2012 after a thorough restoration. This is probably why the price tag is quite acceptable: from € 92 per night. The hotel is located in a quiet historic center resort town Tazacorte, surrounded by banana plantations and with great view to the Atlantic Ocean.

Beaches

There, in Tazacorte, there is an eternally sunny beach, on which gloomy clouds do not cast shadows even in winter. And at night along the coast, dozens of fishermen in boats await their catch. The light of the lamps reflected in the dark water and the male singing are mesmerizing! There are a few more notable beaches in the table below.

Puerto Naos beach on the island of Palma

Be sure to take a dip in the natural pools of Charco azul in San Andres on the island of Palma (Spain)

Despite the small area of the island and our rather lyrical introduction, here everyone will find something to their liking. But the priority, of course, are excursions. Here is just a small list of where to go and what to see ...

sights

The main attraction of the island is its nature. And amazingly clean air. Since 2002, Palma has been recognized as a world biosphere reserve. About 35 percent of its area is covered with pine and laurel forests.

Caldera de Taburiente National Park. The extensive forests and mountains make the island ideal for hiking trails.

"Colored" waterfall in national park Caldera de Taburiente.

Together with ferns, dragon trees and other species (there are more than twenty of them), they form a "dome" that shelters the ancient north of the island. These are the "last of the Mohicans" forests, endangered representatives that covered the south of Europe for many years. Especially for lovers of romance and solitude, there are paths laid here, along which you can walk, "wrapped" in fog and feeling the breath of wildlife.

A couple of steps from the central part of the city of Los Llanos there is a good Botanical Garden... Not far from it is the Maroparque Zoo with exotic birds and animals: pompous peacocks, fastidious toucans, slender herons, etc. sit in valliers.

Los Llanos de Aridane is the largest city on the island. Here you can take some spectacular photos against the background of bright facades.

Las Manchas has an original mosaic square of the Four Stones. Here they are buried in small greenery, but beautiful fountain, numerous gazebos and benches, as well as a stage for performances. Conveniently, the house-museum of wine is not far away. Here you can taste and even buy the vaunted Canarian wines.

Santa Cruz de La Palma is the capital of the island. The city is notable for its colonial-style facades.

Be sure to visit the cactus garden on your way to El Paso. There are more than seven hundred exotic species of them.

For museum lovers:

  • in the cigar museum, you will get acquainted with the stages of making high-quality cigars, which are quite comparable in quality to Cuban ones;
  • in the silk museum you will see the process of making silk products. When leaving, do not forget to buy something for yourself or as a souvenir;
  • There is also the only banana museum in the world on Palma, where you will learn in detail about the impact of a banana on the society and economy of the island. The fact is that this product is the most cultivated and export

There are a lot of observation platforms (free!) Scattered all over the island, from where absolutely fantastic landscapes open up for every taste: the coast and cities, amazing sunsets and the vast ocean.

A well-known fact that we have no right not to mention is the astronomical observatory, which studies the entire northern hemisphere of the planet. If you decide to visit this delightful place, do not forget to register in advance, as well as bring warm clothes and comfortable shoes... The observatory is located on the very high point islands: 2400 meters above sea level.

A couple of facts that were not included in the article:

  • Tenerife is so far the only island in the Canary Islands with which there is an international air connection. Therefore, you will have to get to Palma "the old fashioned way", with transfers.
  • There is practically no crime in this place, life is measured and calm.
  • In addition to the forests on Palma, you can admire the vast heather fields.
  • Since scientists conduct round-the-clock observation of our Universe, special lighting has been installed on the roads, which does not interfere with astrophysicists' work.
  • There are several place names that include the word "Palm". Do not confuse them, so as not to be instead Canary Island Palma on, for example, Palma de Mallorca, on about. Majorca.
  • The average air temperature throughout the year is approximately 22-24 ° C.
  • The palm tree is able to provide itself with vegetables and fruits. And the potato crop is harvested here four times a year.
  • There are not many places for tourists on the island - not a few: only seven thousand. So hurry up!;)
  • The palm is known for producing delicious honey.

Leisure

In this regard, the possibilities on the island are no less than the number of attractions. Are you surprised? It seems, what else can you do in a place surrounded by azure warm water, under the gentle sun? Here's what:

  • diving or spearfishing. If you've already mastered scuba diving, it's time to get down to business. True, there are many conditions for spearfishing to take place. First, not all fish can be caught. Secondly, not on all days and, thirdly, not in any place you like. In addition, the catch cannot be sold, and there must be a license to fish. If the above restrictions have discouraged you from hunting underwater, well, you can just go fishing. Catching a rich catch - no matter where you are: in a boat or under water - is always a pleasure. Or it can be even easier: just go on a boat trip. Good too;
  • rock climbing or paragliding. And for that, and for another type of entertainment, there is everything you need. By the way, the island of Palma is considered one of the most ideal places for free flights;
  • arrange a real marathon or explore the route on foot by visiting ancient caves. You can use a mountain bike

Pay attention to the possibility of a guided tour of the acropark, which is located very close to Refugio del Pilar. Hanging bridges, ropes and nets will add vivid impressions to a relaxing holiday.

Gastronomy

It's delicious everywhere here. A bit unusual - the influence of many national cultures affects: Spanish, European, Latin American, African and not only. The dishes are still based on fresh seafood of excellent quality and impeccable taste. Add to this the excellent wine of our own production, amazing desserts and, as they say, "impossible to resist"! Prices in restaurants range from € 10-15, with wine the amount increases to € 50. By the way, dinner on Palma starts late and can drag on until midnight.

Green and red mojo are traditional hot and spicy Canarian sauces.

P.S.

This is what it is, the island of Palma, to which today we deservedly pass the palm (do not take it for a pun) among other islets of the Canary archipelago. Shall we meet on the Palm?;)

More recently, the Arab Emirates were known to the world for their deserts and the availability of such valuable raw materials as oil. But some time passed and everything changed. Now everyone is fascinated by the images of Arab beauties and secretly dreams of getting there, seeing these cosmic wonders with their own eyes, while world celebrities and tycoons are fighting for every square meter in Dubai. The reason for this is the gigantic buildings of indescribable beauty. All the largest that is on our planet (fountains, hotels, towers, parks) is located in the UAE. Artificial islands in the shape of date palms on the Persian Gulf coast - Jebel Ali, Jumeirah and Deira are rightfully considered one of these wonders.

Palm Jumeirah in the UAE is located in the Dubai Marina area, see how it is located on the map relative to other artificial islands:

Sorry, the card is temporarily unavailable

Construction of the Jumeirah Palm began in 2001. For the work, fifteen thousand builders were involved, who also lived there. Work did not stop for a minute, shift after shift, day after day, month after month, and in 2006 the island was ready. The materials used were stone and sand, which were mined from the bottom of the bay. The entire island consists of a main trunk and 17 palm leaves... A crescent was also built around the palm tree - the symbol of all Muslims, which also serves as a breakwater and protects the island from high waves and storms, its length is 11 km. Thus, the total area of Jumeirah exceeds 25 sq. km., which is equal to 800 football fields.

After the work on the island was completed, the architects began building the area. Soon, luxurious villas, hotels, shopping centers, not to mention palms and other plants, grew on the sand. Most of Palm Jumeirah's real estate has already been sold out and inhabited. The architecture is executed in different styles: from Arabic to European.

Atlantis The Palm is the world's most luxurious hotel.

Jumeirah Island is actually a peninsula, as it is connected to the mainland by a 300 m long bridge. To enable the inhabitants of the island to move quickly through the territory, a tunnel was built under water. And for implementation transport links The Jumeirahs built a monorail road with the mainland.

The scale of the island is so great that you can even see it from space.

Dubai, a city that 50 years ago was an impoverished relative in the UAE family, today has become the most progressive and fastest growing metropolis in the world. The financial impetus for such lightning-fast development was given by the discovery of its own oil fields in the territory of the emirate in 1966. This fateful event helped transform the fishing village into a global investment and tourist centre... But today, income from the production and sale of oil is only 5% of GDP, and the immense budget of the emirate is formed mainly through investments, sales of real estate, trade and tourism.

When rebuilding the city, the sheikhs did not waste time on trifles. Drunk with their petrodollars, they began to ennoble their native lands with rapture. When you look at the modern look of Dubai, you immediately see that this splendor is nothing more than a mixture of irrepressible imagination and huge money.

In 2000, the Dubai authorities thought that they seemed to have everything, but there was not enough space. So they decided to create islands in the Persian Gulf. The result of these noble plans was a conglomerate of man-made objects, the largest of which was the Palm Jumeirah.

Jumeirah artificial islands - the most ambitious engineering and financial project

The legendary creation is the hero of many sections of the Guinness Book of Records, the largest artificial island in the world. The facility added to the emirate of Dubai even greater worldwide fame and increased the length of the beach strip by more than 56 km (which is 9 times more than it was before construction). Also, almost 520 km of land went for the construction of the most expensive real estate in the Middle East, which, by the way, was sold out even before the end of construction.

The main initiator of the Jumeirah megaproject was Sheikh Mohammed, ruler and absolute monarch of Dubai. And the calculations themselves and their implementation were carried out by the company "Nakhil" - a state government developer, and hundreds of specially hired design specialists. The shape of the future Palm Jumeirah Island (United Arab Emirates) was not only a fantasy solution, but also the result of careful calculations, which made it possible to place a maximum of villas on it and lengthen beach line... In addition, the choice of the shape of the island contains an ideological subtext, because the date palm is a symbol of Dubai, and the object itself has the full name Palm Jumeirah, or "crown of a palm tree".

How was the Palm Jumeirah built?

The construction of the island began in 2001, and already in 2006, the first buildings began to be erected. In 2008, the first huge hotel Atlantis The Palm 5 * was opened. To create a solid soil, ordinary sand was not suitable, which "at least eat with a spoon" in the desert around Dubai. Sea sand was extracted from the bottom of the Persian Gulf by drying. The material was compacted with special machines using continuous vibrations. The shallow waters off the coast of Palm Jumeirah are not very prone to storms, but the island is nevertheless surrounded by a 3.5-meter protective breakwater made of rock. The place of each pebble in the embankment was determined by the computer.

In total, 94 million m 3 of sand, 5.5 million m 3 of rock stones, 10 years of labor of 49 thousand workers and 52 billion dollars were spent on the creation of the island. If we add up the entire volume of sand that was required to create the Palm Jumeirah Island (United Arab Emirates), then it would be enough to build a stable wall 2.5 meters high and a length commensurate with the equator.

Palm Jumeirah - a modern oriental tale

Palm Jumeira is very reminiscent of something unreal and impossible. It seems that he is fantastic, descended from the pages of books by Lewis Carroll or Jules Verne. Many people, seeing the artificial island of Palm Jumeirah, consider it to be the embodiment of oriental fantasies from the "Thousand and One Nights" fairy tales. In principle, this is quite understandable - they could not build an island worth more than $ 50 billion in the style of Khrushchev's high-rise buildings. The ostentatious splendor on the verge of insanity fits the style of this grand island. Most famous hotel Atlantis the Palm, which is located on the breakwater, is decorated in the style of legends about the disappeared kingdom of Atlantis.

Palm Jumeirah is also a contemporary investment fairy tale. Back in 2003, the Dubai leadership revised many legislative dogmas and made fateful decisions to expand the investment and real estate market. Since then, Dubai has become an "investment doll". In addition to national finances, born of "black gold", millions of European and American currencies went to the emirate. And when the famous 9/11 attack took place in the United States, many decided to hide their finances in the more reliable and profitable Arab market at that time.

Palm Jumeirah Real Estate

Dubai, especially in the prestigious Palm Jumeirah, has the most attractive and high-profile real estate market in the eastern region, if not the entire continent. Before the end of the construction of the artificial island, most of the villas had already been sold. However, today some branches of the Palm are still overgrown with new villas.

Residential property in Dubai became an attractive market unit only after the authorities of the emirate made an unprecedented decision in 2003 - granting foreign buyers full ownership of the acquired property. Thus, Dubai has become the only city in the Persian Gulf where the purchase of real estate is a completely transparent procedure, which is protected by international and national law.

Palm Jumeirah Hotels, Entertainment & Attractions

Only after the construction of infrastructure facilities, roads and hotels on the trunk of a palm tree, the island took on a completed form and the already familiar outlines of the Palm Jumeirah resort. The description of the area as a "city of the future" is by no means an exaggeration. Jumeirah is indeed a very high-tech and extremely prestigious region. It should be noted that Jumeirah is not only the name of an artificial island, but the entire area of the city, including beaches and hotels near Palma. There are 25 prohibitively expensive hotels on the island itself.
