Tax Free shopping in Italy. Everything about Tax Free in Rome: a complete guide

And what you don’t want on the card, it’s also very convenient, I recently made a refund at the airport in Rome, the money came exactly three days later, but I know that when you do it through Global Blue Tax Free, money goes through everything else for a very long time. Please refer to this link for the cash return address.

Who knows if there are Tax Free envelope mailboxes in the area after passport control? The money was received in Rome itself, so it remains to affix the customs stamp and send the envelopes. But there is a customs office after passport control, who takes the purchased goods to the salon, and there is less queue than before passport control. So the question arose, but the boxes are there ???

fresh information from Rome, Fiumicino terminal 3. Taxfree for checked-in baggage is processed at check-in counters 320 approx. The office hours are from 7 am to 10 pm. There are boxes, and there is also a customs office. Anything that travels in hand luggage is checked out in a clean area right at the fork on the gate there are signs. Cash, cards, boxes, two customs officers nearby. I received cash, so I don’t know what is the order of sending the envelopes. Cash is the same - first you contact the girl in the window of the tax refund office you need, show your passport and form, and then she sends it to the customs officer using an unknown scheme. Out of three things, I needed a mark for one, my friend had more - she was not sent to customs at all. The customs office looks at the passport, boarding, draws up the paper, can look at the thing. Then you go back and get the money. Commission from 3 euros and more for each check, depending on the amount.

rouje, don't confuse people's heads. if you are mistaken, it does not mean that it should be done so.
1) go to the customs officer, if you check in your things as luggage, then first you check in your luggage, get your boarding pass, pick up your luggage from the check-in counter and go to customs. There you get a mark on the check and drop off your luggage. May be asked to show things.
If you are taking it with you in your carry-on baggage, then you check in for the flight and go to passport control. Then to customs officer, mark all receipts (they can be of different return systems).
2) after marking, go to the tax free office (window) according to the name of the refund system and receive money at will, either in cash or on a card. if personal, be prepared to pay € 3 per check. Therefore, it is more profitable to receive money on a card.

Out of three things, I needed a mark for one, my friend had more - she was not sent to customs at all.

a mark is needed not for things but for a check. A check can be written one for several things. Without a customs stamp, no bank will issue money. Perhaps your girlfriend managed to mark her checks before she applied to the bank for money.
In addition, there may be different systems for returning Global Blue (blue window), tax refund (yellow). Each "girl" is responsible only for her own. probably you should have turned to other windows as well. and at the same time stood in queues a few more times ...
But thanks for the positive. Six months ago, it was impossible to get cash in Rome.

On hand are December Estonian Global Blue Tax Free checks with a customs stamp. Because crossed the border on a Lux Express bus, there was no way to get on immediately at the border. We are going to Rome in March and want to get Tax Free there, if I'm not mistaken, they are valid for one year. Should there be no questions when picking up at the Global Blue ticket office at Fiumicino airport, or maybe there are ticket offices in Rome itself, such as London? Who has had such an experience, share your experience. Thanks in advance to everyone who responded!

I answer my own question
http://www.globalblue.ru/customer-services/tax-free-shopping/refund-points/italy/rome-downtown/
http://www.taxrefund.it/offices.php?nazione=1&citta=1&num=0&lang=ENG&tipo=0
but, unfortunately, I found out that in the offices of Global Blue in the city you can only get the Global Blue Tax Free forms displayed in Italy. Will they refuse for the same reason to make a refund on my previously issued Estonian checks and at the Fiumicino airport! I'm waiting for someone who had such an experience, please share!

The question does not quite correspond to this topic, and yet, Denis, I am addressing you as a person directly related to Estonia, in which country, besides Estonia, can you get a refund on tax-free checks? The purchases were made in Tallinn in the Viru shopping center and the checks were issued without an envelope (the sellers were in a hurry, the store was closing), I can't even throw them into the mailbox at the border. So I would like to get at least cash at Fiumicino airport. I really hope for your hint. Thanks in advance for your reply.

The Soviet era of total deficit is long gone. Domestic counters literally "groan" from the abundance of imported goods. The era is gone, but the harmful bacillus, which prompts our compatriots to look for exclusive things in the West, has taken root in our minds forever. And it doesn't matter that for this "exclusive" (which has ceased to be such for 20 years) one has to overpay. Count it up: air tickets, visas, hotels, transfers - all this ultimately translates into solid numbers. Maybe that's why (in order to sweeten an expensive pill), the leadership of the EU countries came up with TAX FREE?

And the EU leadership is making sure that we long remember the long tails of lines "for something" in the wonderful Soviet times. After all, it is almost impossible to get a refund after a shock shopping in Italy without tiresome expectations. But, jokes aside - our story is on a serious topic. So…

Dedicated to all Russians shopping in Italy ...

What is TAX FREE?

International VAT refund system for people outside the EU. This means that Russians (Chinese, Arabs, Japanese) traveling to Italian shops can soften the bitterness of losing their money by returning a small percentage.

What is the refund amount?

The percentage of TAX FREE is different in different countries. Tax-free in Italy - 22%. It's official. In fact, its magnitude varies greatly. Shops conclude agreements with intermediaries that are unfavorable for tourists, which we will talk about later. As a result, the Russian citizen receives 11-13%, instead of 22%. The exception is exclusive stores (jewelry, fur). In them, the refunded amount sometimes reaches several thousand euros.

Minimum purchase value

The total amount of purchases is above 155 €. They must be done during the day and by all means in one store, less often - in one trading house. For instance, Milan La Rinascente at the Global Blue office draws up a common tax-free invoice for all purchases in different boutiques.

Which shops provide Tax Free?

Noticed shop windows with a logo or Global blue or Tax Refund or Premier Tax Free- that way. There are more than 18,000 such outlets in Italy.

How to ask the seller about Tax Free?

After choosing a product and going to the checkout, say: "Tax Free, perfavore"... Say the phrase before making a purchase.

What documents are required?

Personally with you - a passport. For large purchases, branded equipment (for example, Apple) without a passport, a discount will not be issued.

The store is obliged to issue:

  • Fattura- a special invoice, which indicates: the purchase amount (as in the check) and the refund amount (without this number, the customs officers will not put the required stamp). The sellers can fill in your personal data themselves or they ask you to do it.

Return methods

  1. In the city before leaving.
  2. At the airport in Rome, Milan, Naples, Rimini, Verona, Pisa, Bologna.
  3. In Moscow.

Return to town

Without waiting for the return flight, you can return the tax-free at the city offices of the return points. A list of Global Blue offices is available on globalblue.ru. A list of TAX Refund points is posted on taxrefund.it. Going for money, grab:

  1. Product.
  2. Fattura.
  3. The passport.
  4. Return ticket.
  5. Credit card.

The tax-free refund procedure looks like this. The employees, after checking the checks, pay the money, while fixing the credit card details. You agree, in turn, to send the stamped checks to the office address in due time. Otherwise, the amount paid and the penalty for non-fulfillment of the contract will be debited from the card.

Expensive fur and jewelry boutiques provide a similar service without intermediaries. This is the best return for the buyer. Such stores return the maximum percentage (22%). That is, you buy a product "cleared" from value added tax (VAT).

Special boxes are installed at the airport for stamped checks in a branded envelope (issued with fattura). The envelope can be sent from Russia by post by pasting the necessary stamps.

Standard return procedure at Italian airports

  1. Get your boarding pass.
  2. Go to dogana (customs office) with documents (coupon, passport, checks, fattura) and things bought in the country. Do not cut labels from products.
  3. The customs officer, after checking the purchases and receipts, puts a stamp.
  4. Find items Global blue or Tax Refund or Premier Tax Free and present your stamped checks.
  5. You receive money in cash or leave credit card details, to which the entire amount will be transferred in 3-5 days.

Yaroslav, Petersburg:

“I left my card details at the Rome airport (in January 2019). I waited 2 weeks in vain. I thought my bloodshed was crying! It's good that I kept a piece of paper with the phone from Premier Tax Free. I called. I had to "growl" in Italian-English. I got mine after 3 weeks. An unpleasant story. "

Rome. Tax Free at Aeroporto di Fiumicino

There are 2 customs houses in the building. The first is intended for passengers who wish to send items purchased in Italy with their luggage. Huge queues, in which it is easy to lose 2 hours - 100% inevitable. The undoubted plus of this point is a superficial inspection of purchases.

Olga, Petrozavodsk:

"I once got TAX FREE showing a used Naf Naf dress instead of a Max Mara outfit I bought."

You will see the second dogana behind the store. Salvatore ferragamo having passed passport control. At this dogana, those who “prefer to carry everything with them” go through the procedure, and not check in their luggage. The queue is small here, but things are examined more carefully.

Opposite this customs, people crowd at the window Global blue... Direct refunds are made in this window. Have patience and time (the final step will take another 40 minutes).

Milan. Tax Free at Aeroporto di Milano - Malpensa

The first customs office (check-in hall) checks receipts more quickly than the point behind passport control. In the window Premier Tax Free(return) for some reason there are always fewer people than in the other two. Experienced shopping enthusiasts in Milan know this and are initially looking for stores that have signed contracts with this intermediary company. Check-in times are available at airportmalpensa.com.

Vera, Tula:

“The worst airport in terms of money back! Active Arabs, disciplined Chinese visit Milan with only one mission - to collect more goods. Three-hour queues, noise, hassle. You will not wish on the enemy! Passengers who are lost in lines are often called over the loudspeaker, and they drop everything and run to the plane. "

Rimini. Tax Free at Aeroporto di "Federico Fellini"

Scheme of the airport Federico Fellini.

The customs office is located next to the check-in counters for aircraft flying to Russia. Customs officers are extremely picky: they open boxes, check the letters on the sales receipt with the letters on the product label. The inspection takes 20 (at least) minutes.

Cash points are located on the second floor. You need to get to them before passing the passport control.

Moscow. Tax Free Refund

Refunds in Moscow are carried out by:

  • First Czech-Russian Bank;
  • SMP Bank;
  • Intesa;
  • Promsvyazbank;
  • MDM Bank.

Payments can not be made by all Moscow branches of banks, therefore, before going for money, call and specify the address of the branch you need. The checks that you will present must be stamped by Italian customs officials.

Do not forget!

  • TAX FREE checks for Italian purchases are valid for 3 months. Hurry up to meet this deadline!
  • Each Fattura will be charged a commission of 3 € upon receipt of cash.

Farewell parable

At the planning meeting, the director of the holding instructs the managers:
- Ask the client what he wants more: a discount or the product itself. If the discount is more important to him, offer the product for a triple price with a 50% markdown - let him rejoice!

Sometimes, when picking up goods worth more than 155 €, an excited customer does not notice that she is choosing an unnecessary item (skirt, trousers). At home, she sighs in disappointment: "Why did I grab this?" As a result, the benefit is zero. Make no mistakes!

essence of the question:
how to get the least headache with getting tax fries when pouring from Rome through Fiumicino.

The question was inspired by reading the topic on refunding tax-free in Milan ...
since I myself did not face the described problems, flying out of the "ordinary" Rimini ..... Everything was very simple in Rimini - I dragged a bunch of envelopes (which were given to me in different stores), after registering and putting things in luggage (no one asked to see) went with a boarding pass to my uncle - "like a customs officer" he stamped my envelopes and I immediately on the spot (that is, in dyutifria) received a "tax" back.

Here are my questions:
- what are the restrictions on the price of the product and the refundable "tax"?
- is it really necessary to present things for inspection?
- if you first check in for the flight, then go through customs (with suitcases ?????) i.e. to show things that have been pre-folded on top of the suitcase, then how can you then check this suitcase in your luggage? just finish it, or what? and who will release me back after customs at the check-in counter ????

In general, I will be glad to learn useful information on this issue.

10. In some Italian airports, customs officers are not constantly present, so you have to call them. To do this, you need to apply in advance for a certificate to the airport services and, possibly, ask to call a customs officer to confirm the fact of export.
The customs officer does not owe you anything and does not owe you anything, therefore your most kind attitude towards him and a gentle smile, complementing your request to stamp the Global Refund checks, will be the best reason for him to quickly issue your checks, without starting to fuss with the inspection of purchases.

A nuance that I forgot to say. When you pick up baggage with a tag from the check-in counter, then your boarding passes, as a rule, remain with the receptionist, and you will then have to return for them after you have issued a tx-free with the customs officer. Oh how!

If the customs officers take the baggage away, the registrar will see it in the system and give you a boarding pass and a coupon for this baggage. If you return with luggage (it depends on the airport, its technical and human equipment in terms of customs personnel), then the receptionist will pick up the luggage and give you boarding passes and, again, a luggage coupon.
The system can vary from airport to airport and from airline to airline, but in general terms, this nuance looks something like this.

Denis, thanks!
I also forgot what to add - I will fly from Rome to Helsinki. Does it give any advantages or does it add additional haemorrhages in the tax-free procedure?
like for Italian goods, can I get an Italian tax free only in Italy or already in Russia on a card with a Finnish customs stamp?

Yes, the benefits are as follows. Nobody will look at your goods if they are in carry-on luggage. You don't need a customs stamp on goods in your carry-on baggage - at all (except when you don't want cash in euros for anything). You just go to the duty free shop at Vantaa airport after passing the control, but before the Schengen border control, and get the tax back there. Store employees are authorized to confirm export.

Warning. A lot of Americans, Canadians, Japanese and Chinese fly through Vantaa. If you run into them (the latter don't even speak English in some cases) and there will be a lot of money, so come beforehand. Otherwise, you risk then running to border control with money, but with bulging eyes from fear of being late for the flight.

As for the luggage. If you are flying a through flight of the same airline, and the baggage is checked in Rome to its final point in Russia, then the procedure is the same as in paragraph 7 above.

If you fly with different airlines and to Helsinki, after having received your luggage from a Roman flight, you must check in again for the flight, then you will have to confirm the export at the Finnish customs. Ask a Finnish customs officer how you can show him your luggage. Usually Finns don't give a damn about everything, and they won't look at the luggage. However, please note that goods from Italy must remain intact in their original packaging and bags. This is important for the Finns.

However, even if you don’t find a customs officer, it seems to me (I can’t give a guarantee, but there is such an idea) that the employees of the duty free shop will still give you tax on Italian checks. The main thing is that you correctly enter your passport data in them.

In all three cases, you get the Italian tax in a duty free shop in Helsinki-Vantaa after passing special control, but before the Schengen border control. If you do not want to receive cash in euros, then you must obtain a Finnish customs stamp even for those goods that travel in hand luggage. The same procedure if you want to receive tax in Russia in rubles.

Denis,
Vantaa is my final airport, then I get into the car and cross the border.
Arriving in Vantaa from Rome, I essentially do not go through customs. Or am I going through? and then do the procedures described by you to return tax free?
If I cross the Schengen border by car, after stamping the Schengen crossing for me and stamping my Italian tax-free declarations, I go to the Finnish border taxfree and get an Italian tax there ????? In the same your favorite "ordinary" Rimini, our fellow citizens received a cookie with butter and not tax fries for goods bought in France .....

In the same your favorite "ordinary" Rimini

I do not know where you get the idea that Rimini is my favorite. I have never been to Rimini airport. I was on vacation in Rimini, but I flew to Rome on a Japanese JAL Boeing 747-400 plane.

Arriving in Vantaa from Rome, I essentially do not go through customs

Don't go through.

If I cross the Schengen border by car, then after stamping my Schengen crossing and stamping my Italian tax-free declarations, I go to the Finnish border taxfree and get Italian tax there.

Yes, there. I do not know if the store employees have the right to confirm the export, but I believe that they are. But it won't be difficult for you to find a customs officer either.

our fellow citizens received a fig with butter and not tax fries for goods bought in France ...

Why? Didn't know how to speak Italian?

I will write my personal experience of receiving the Finnish tax before Estonia's admission to the European Union. It was an interesting incident. It was written then, therefore the style and words from that song, end of 2003. A letter to a friend, written by me.

Here's the start:
“I completed all purchases. We arrived at the port at the Katayanokka terminal an hour before departure. Nobody lets on the ship until there is boarding. A bunch of stupid Finnish pensioners with chumodans, a crowd at the entrance. In 20 minutes, the gates are opened, we pass to the border control. The customs service is closed and there is no one there. There is little time left, we go to passport control. Gone. Returning to the border guards, I say what to do with tax-free checks. They let me go back across the border, showed me the way to the customs office. I found some kind of police officer. He looked and looked for a customs officer, then returned and said: "It's useless. Almost certainly he went to the neighboring terminal Katyaskaevanu, where the ship came from Stockholm right now."
I hung out for another five minutes, the shift supervisor comes and starts yelling at me in lousy English: "It is economically unprofitable for our state to keep customs officers here all day! It is unprofitable for us to refund your tax! These are your problems! You can stay in Finland and wait for the next ship!" (This is almost half a day, and the tax refund is 63 EUR, here the wife is nervous, the child is not fed in the morning to avoid seasickness onboard).

I call the office of Global Tax Free Refund Finland OY directly from the ship on my mobile phone and start figuring out what to do. “Well, like,” she explains to me, “don’t worry, you will come to the office of the Tavid company in Tallinn (we have such an exchanger there), write them an explanatory note, attach their confirmation and send everything to us.” In general, it is strange that she answered my phone call on Sunday morning.
I went to the Tavid in Tallinn without any hope; naturally, they sent me there; we, they say, do not even have any seal (this is true).

I went to the Finnish embassy on Kokhtu street in the morning on Monday. In Moscow, there is such a practice, when the German embassy assures some moronic tourists with Mehrwertsteuer, if there are good reasons why they did not put down the Zollamt stamp in Germany. Of course, the Finns also sent me away at the Embassy. Like, go back to Helsinki, look for a customs officer there, let him assure you. I went home, drank some tea, was going to go and buy a ticket for the nearest hydrofoil to Helsinki (it is an hour and a half there, one and a half back and costs about 20 euros in Finnish money round-trip), I’ll take away at least some of the money, because forty-three euros money for three hours too. Moreover, it is possible to return money on the hydrofoil without any customs stamp, they have a special aunt planted there for this. I think I’ll waste half a day, but by three o’clock I’ll be back in Tallinn, and my mood will improve when I’m holding the money in my hands. While I was walking to the port on foot in order to save 10 kroons on the tram :-), I decided to call the Finns again at Global Tex Free Refand OY. I call from a mobile phone, she says to me, "oh, yes, I understand, we really don't have anyone at Rosella * to give you cash, I know that there is such

* name of the side (ferry of the Finnish shipping company Viking Like)

Problem. Take all your checks, take photographs (she said “photographs”, not photocopies :-)) of the passport, stamps in the passport about crossing the border (Schengen is still stamping our passports in pursuance of the 90-day agreement), tickets from Viking Rosella Apply Line, and send everything to us in an envelope. And the credit card number. And we will return everything to you, even without customs stamps and without looking at your sealed packages. We believe you, like.

This is the story and the geography.

Well, I turned around almost by the sea, went to Kadaka tee to the post office, where I made a photocopy of my passport and immediately sent everything by letter and sent it off.
By registered mail for 16.50 EEK. And the money for the credit card came a month and a half later.

For me personally, in no country in the world is VAT refund associated with such bureaucratic difficulties. Well, where else, pray tell me, bags with purchases are sealed in the store with sticky tape with the inscription "do not open until you leave the border"? Yes, how many clothes we brought from Sweden, Austria, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Switzerland, with half of them on, and everything was printed and measured, and everywhere we were normally sealed and VAT returned right at the border. Cash. "

End of the letter.

Looking up from the letter, I can only say that the money for the credit card came ... in US dollars! Guess how much the bank bought dollars in order to credit them to the card account in Estonian kroons. First, Global Refund itself converted 63 euros into dollars at an extortionate rate of 1.11 dollars per euro (at 1.16 on the street), and then my bank bought these dollars at the rate of 12.72 EEK per dollar (this is like 1.23 dollars per euro).

Well, the bank must live on something ...

Denis, about Rimini, I was joking, don't take it personally.

Those tourists were sent to Rimini, motivating the message by the fact that they, they say, cannot refund the tax in Italy on goods bought in France (they came from France by car and returned to their homeland from Italy). The boy who was refunding the tax spoke charmingly Russian, so there could be no misunderstandings. This happened in my presence, we stood in line together. I also noticed the inscription on the tax-free envelope, something like "tax refund only for goods purchased in Italy" ....

Tomorrow I'm going to Finka, I'll try to find out how things might be and I'll write.

I also noticed the inscription on the tax-free envelope, something like "tax refund only for goods purchased in Italy" ....

Either this "boy" divorced you, and you were "led", or the persons refunding tax on purchases in France did not have the Italian customs seal, which is more likely, judging by yours - alas! incomplete - the story. With the Italian customs stamp on French checks, money can be received even in Sweden, even in the USA.

about those tourists ...
maybe it was a wiring, but what's the point? they returned to me, but the previous one is not in the queue ...

With the Italian customs stamp on French checks, money can be received even in Sweden, even in the USA

Those. I still need to put some stamps in Italy ????? Or does it mean that I can apply to any office a global refaun (IMHO, that's why it is global) with correctly stamped declarations and things, I can get a refund?

All tourists who are not residents of the Eurozone countries, Italy grants the right to receive TAX FREE. You can use this service if:

TAX FREE registration:

At the checkout, according to your passport, the seller will issue you a TAX FREE check. Carefully check if your information is correct: last name, first name, country of residence, address and passport number.

Refund TAX FREE:

METHOD # 1: the tourist can return the TAX FREE without waiting for the day of departure from the country at one of the offices of the aforementioned companies located in the center of Rome. Many travelers know that while shopping, you can save a little and get back some of the money spent on shopping abroad. Tax Free Refunds provide for the refund of VAT on goods exported outside the country where they were purchased. However, the procedure for issuing and receiving money directly when leaving the country is associated with the cost of time, nerves and vitality. You can get tax refund on purchases before you leave and use the funds received again by contacting the office of one of three intermediary companies - Global Blue, Tax Refund S.p.a or Premier Tax Free, located in the very center of Rome.

What else you need to know when returning Tax Free

1. The basic standard rate of Imposta sul Valore Aggiunto (IVA), that is, value added tax, in Italy is 22%. But for some groups of goods, it may differ:

  • textiles, leather clothing, jewelry, sunglasses, glass products, wine and other alcohol - 22%;
  • meat products, cheeses and other food products - 10%;
  • various herbs such as basil, oregano or sage - 5%;
  • dairy products, bread, vegetables and fruits, prescription glasses - 4%.

2. The goods purchased in the countries of the European Union must be exported outside its borders no later than 3 months from the date of purchase recorded in the sales receipt of the store where it was purchased.

3. On the special form received with the store's check - fattura (Tax Free Shopping Check), the price of the goods, as well as the amount to be refunded, must be indicated. In addition, passport data must be entered in the appropriate fields - document number, full name. and the home address of the bearer.

4. When passing through customs control, you will need to present the purchased goods (in original packaging, not used), a receipt from the store and a completed invoice form. On it, the customs officer must put the appropriate stamp, thereby certifying that all formalities have been complied with and the goods have been properly issued for export.

5. It is important to take into account that the customs stamp on the purchased goods must be affixed only before leaving the EU countries. In other words, if the journey continues in the EU zone or you intend to transfer there, the customs clearance mark is affixed in the last country.

6. After passing through customs, it is recommended to immediately send the shop receipt and the stamped invoice by mail, placing the documents in a branded envelope issued in the store when registering Tax Free. Mailboxes can be found easily by contacting the airport staff. Documents can also be sent from a permanent place of residence, but in this case you will have to pay extra as for international postage. It should be borne in mind that the tax form must be delivered to the office of the company within 21 days, counting from the date of affixing the customs seal.
