How to get from Stansted to London? Stansted International Airport in London.

There are five airports in the vicinity of London, here links to their official sites:

Our trip took place through Gatwick Airport, which is the second largest in the UK after Heathrow. The airport consists of two terminals, North and South, between which there is a free train every 3-5 minutes (travel time is 2-3 minutes).

Gatwick Airport, South Terminal

Arrival

Even on the plane, you must fill out immigration cards. If, for some reason, you didn’t have time to fill out the card on the plane, it doesn’t matter. You can do this while you are in the queue for passport control (but if they are not filled at all, they will be returned from the counter, already at the end of the queue).

On the right are the counters for EU and UK citizens, on the left all the others. There are a lot of checkpoints, so the queue moves pretty quickly. When checking a passport, sometimes they ask a standard question about the purpose of the trip and put an entry stamp.

Having passed the control, you need to turn left and pick up your luggage in the next hall. After that, go to the exit.

Departure

Everything follows the usual procedure. Arriving at the airport, we look at the scoreboard to find out where the boarding check-in takes place.

We are going through security control. Here are 2 tips: arrive at the airport well in advance, as the security line can be quite long, and secondly, if you are traveling with hand luggage, do not forget to pack all liquids (cosmetics) with a volume of more than 100 ml in transparent sealed bags and put them directly to the tape, separately from their other things. Save a lot of time - for yourself and those around you. If you have doubts about the weight of your luggage, you can go to the free racks with weights and ask to weigh it.

After registration, go up the escalator, there is no passport control, instead, you need to scan your ticket in front of the turnstile, it opens, we go through customs and go to the left into the waiting room.

Duty-free at Gatwick is large enough and one of the best in terms of prices and range from many airports in the world. A good selection of perfumes, spirits, sweets. It is difficult to leave here without shopping. There are always some promotions and discounts.

There are also shops on the second floor, and there you can also have a snack and drink coffee, if you have the time and desire. There are fewer people, there are more free seats, there is a boarding board, so you won't be late for the plane. There are also shops at the airport, not Duty-free, so the prices differ.

Getting from the airport to London

Of the five airports around London, only Heathrow is connected to the London transport system. The rest - alas, no (this means that you cannot get to other airports by metro, surface metro or DLR). We arrived at Gatwick. Despite the fact that Gatwick Airport is considered London, and is even called London Gatwick Airport, it is not located entirely in London, or rather, not even at all in the city, but at a distance of 48 kilometers. You can leave in different ways: taxis, buses and the Gatwick Express train.

Taxi

To order a taxi from the airport, you need to go down to the asphalt level, to the lower platform of the airport (there are signs everywhere), go to the kiosk that says Taxi and tell the dispatcher where to go. You will immediately be served a beautiful car (very comfortable, but not the one that you saw in the movies and imagine as a London taxi. You will see old-fashioned London cabs in London, although, perhaps, you will meet a few on the way).
A cheerful Indian for about £ 80-110 (the amount may vary, depending on the named address, it should be clarified in the control room) will take you to the specified address.

The road will take up to one and a half hours and will be accompanied by a switched on GPS-navigator (to the advice of which the taxi driver will not listen anyway, I think this is their kind of compass), a call to a friend to clarify the route, perhaps, refueling on the way and a conversation about the weather and prices on the houses that you will pass, if you, of course, want to. At the end of the trip, you will receive a discount coupon if you want to use their services on the way back.

The Gatwick Express and other trains are good alternatives to get to London.

The Gatwick Express runs from Gatwick to Victoria Station from 5.50 to 0.35 every 15 minutes. (in the morning there are 2 trains at 04:35 05:20, 2 last at night 00:50 01:35)
and from Victoria station to Gatwick from 5.00 to 23.40 every 15 min. (before that, the first two go at 03:30 and 04:30, after that the last ones are 00:01 and 00:32).
It is better to check the information about the first two and the last trains on the website.
http://www.gatwickexpress.com
In this case, you will pay £ 39.3 at BOTH ends in the worst case scenario (if you buy at the box office and separately) or £ 31.05 (if you buy tickets online at once in two directions, there are often additional discounts for travelers departing from Victoria station).
There are also discounts for children under 15 years old inclusive. If you buy tickets online, the discount will be 10-15%. The site is worth studying in detail, I also recommend subscribing to news and special offers in advance - discounts are periodically announced.
If you haven't bought it in advance, don't worry, go to the counter with the Gatwick Express sign and buy the ticket you need. You will hardly be able to travel without a ticket: periodically conductors check tickets, but even if there is no conductor, there are always turnstiles at the exit in Victoria, which you cannot pass without a ticket (the ticket must be lowered into the slot of the turnstile and only after that the turnstile will open).

The express departs directly from the airport. The board shows the trains and their departure times, go down the escalator and sit in the one that suits you. There are express trains, and there are trains that stop along the way.

The express train runs non-stop, from the airport to Victoria Station in exactly 30 minutes, through places no less picturesque than if you watch them from the windows of a taxi. There are no traffic jams either.

I didn’t use the bus, but I know that there are buses from the stops near the exit from the airport National Express to Victoria bus station (the cost when buying online on their website is about £ 8, a direct trip takes about 1 hour 50 minutes), to Heathrow airport - more expensive, about £ 20 one way (on the way - about 1 hour 5 minutes - 1 hour 20 minutes). There is also a certain system of discounts. The carrier works with the airports of Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton, Stansted. They also carry from the airport to other cities (see the list of directions on their own website).

London Stansted airport Is one of the most famous and largest airports in Europe serving low-cost airlines. IATA code - STN. Located 50 kilometers northeast of London, Stansted is the third airport in terms of passenger traffic (after Heathrow and Gatwijka) not only the capital, but the whole of Great Britain. Before 1966 Stansted was an airbase, and from 1969 it was already used as a third airport London... Despite the large number of flights operated, Stansted has only one terminal with three satellites: one is connected to the terminal by an underground transit system, and two - by a bridge. How to get to London Stansted airport

The fastest way is the Stansted Express train, which departs from Liverpool Street station (there is also the metro station of the same name). The express train starts to go to the airport from 3-40 in the morning every half hour, and from 5-10 in the morning and until 22-55 every 15 minutes. The last train to the airport leaves at 23-55. Stansted Express has one stopover at Tottenham Hale Tube Station, arriving approximately 11 minutes after departing from Liverpool Street. Total travel time to airport Stansted is 47 minutes. Similarly, you can get from the airport to London, and the last express departs at half past one in the night. True, trains after midnight no longer stop at Tottenham Hale, since this station is already closing by this time.

It is worth mentioning the tariffs separately. The cost of one trip ( Single) from Stansted before Liverpool Street second class is £ 23.40 for adults and £ 11.70 for children (5-15 years old). Children under 5 years old travel for free. The price, of course, is not small, but there are several ways to reduce it. Firstly, if you plan to fly back from airport Stansted, then it is better to buy a ticket immediately there and back ( Return), and you can go "back" any day within the next 30 days after the first trip. Such a ticket will cost £ 32.80 (£ 16.40 for children), that is, one trip will cost "only" £ 16.40 or 30% less. Secondly, there is Web Duo Ticket, which allows those traveling in pairs to buy a joint ticket with a 26% discount. Thus, a round trip ticket for two costs £ 48.00 or £ 12.00 for a single trip, that is, almost 2 times cheaper. True, you can buy this ticket only on the Stansted Express website, since they are not sold at the box office, and passengers must travel strictly together. Finally, there are also group tickets. GroupSave that are Group3 and Group4 depending on whether 3 or 4 people are traveling at the same time. The essence of these tickets is that you also buy a ticket for two adults on the Stansted Express website, indicate the Group3 or Group4 promo code and receive a group ticket, respectively, for 3 or 4 people (adults or children - it doesn't matter). The benefit in this case can also be up to 50%. Of course, this implies that all members of the group must move together and get off or land at the same station.

V Stansted airport can also be reached by buses. Three companies at once serve flights from London v Stansted... Potentially the cheapest option is EasyBus, which buses leave from Baker Street Subway Station every 15-20 minutes and go to the airport in approximately 75 minutes. A ticket on the spot will cost £ 10-12, but a number of seats sell for as little as £ 2, but you have to buy them in advance on their website. Similarly, you can get from airport Stansted to central London: orange buses EasyBus stand directly opposite the exit from the terminal, and their office is located on the territory of the airport.

You can also use the services of the largest British bus carrier - National Express... His buses run from two metro stations: the previously mentioned Liverpool Street and from Victoria, where the largest bus station is located. London- Victoria Coach Station. In the first case, the bus to the airport takes about an hour and costs £ 8.50, in the second - just over 1.5 hours and the ticket will cost £ 10.50. However, if you are planning your independent trip in advance, then National Express you can also find special offers at a lower price. In addition, flights National Express go from the airport Stansted not only to London, but also to such cities of central England as Cambridge, Norwich, Oxford, Nottingham, Leicester, Coventry, Birmingham, Ipswich, Colchester, as well as direct transfers to airports Heathrow (Heathrow), and Luton.

Finally, Stansted airport served by an Italian company Terravision, which specializes in transfers to airports accepting low-cost flights, since they are often located at a remote distance from the main city. V Stansted Terravision buses operate on 3 routes (from Liverpool Street, Victoria and Stratford), differing in price (8, 9 and 6 pounds respectively) and travel time. At the same time, a round-trip ticket will cost 1-2 pounds less, and bought on the Internet will cost another pound less. There are also special offers for those who buy a ticket in advance, up to a 50% discount or even higher.

If you fly to London with Ryanair, you will most likely land at Stansted Airport. It is located about 50 km from London and serves as a transport hub for many European low-cost companies. Today we will tell you how to get from it to the city and back as cheaply as possible.

Note: prices are valid for June 2017

In fact, with a transfer from Stansted, everything is extremely simple - you have to go by bus! Trains are not cheap, taxis are even more expensive, but numerous bus carriers will quickly take you to and from the city for very little money.

The first one to look out for isEasyBus... Depending on the time and place of arrival in the city, the ticket price can vary from 1.95 to 9.95 pounds sterling one way.

Return tickets for £ 1.95 are no longer offered. Prices range from £ 5.95 to £ 11.95. That is, if you guess the time and station of arrival and departure from London, you can save a lot and buy a round-trip transfer for £ 7.90.

The second option is busesNational Express... It should be noted that this carrier's transport is more comfortable. If EasyBus takes you in a small minibus, there will be a large and comfortable air-conditioned bus. We, in fact, preferred this option at the time. In addition, their prices are also quite affordable.

In the opposite direction, from the city to the airport, there are no more tickets for £ 4.50, but £ 7.50 is also quite an interesting price. All in all, a roundtrip transfer on the National Express bus will cost between £ 11.50 and £ 15. The price may vary depending on the station of arrival or departure.

Important advice for those arriving at the airport. Passport control in Stansted is organized in two directions: some of the windows are open for EU citizens (here everything goes very quickly, the queue can be passed in 15-20 minutes), and the other part is for everyone else. And she moves much slower than the first. For example, it took us almost 2 hours. When planning your transfer, keep this in mind and allow for more time between arrival at the airport and boarding the bus.

International Airport "Stansted" (or "Stensted") is located almost 50 kilometers from London in Essex. It specializes in low-cost airlines and ranks as the third largest airport in the capital. It is second only to Heathrow and Gatwick air hubs.

The status of a civil air port "Stansted" received only in 1966, when tourist companies engaged in charter flights began to use it for small tours. Prior to this, the airport infrastructure was used during the Second World War. American and British bombers were based here, and then there was a camp for German prisoners of war. In 1969, the British government decided to reconstruct the Stansted and entrust it with the function of unloading the largest air hubs in London. In this regard, a new terminal was built and the geography of flights was expanded. Today, the air harbor serves up to 25 million passengers a year, and the management plans to further expand the airport.
