Some bank customers - individuals (consumers) using bank cards, believe that after the expiration of the card contractual relationship with the bank are automatically terminated, or that if you do not use a bank card, then you will not have to pay for it. This is a misconception that can backfire:

The bank may demand to pay a commission for the annual service of the card, and if there is money on the card account, debit the amount of the commission from the account;

Is it possible to terminate the agreement with the bank

Yes, this requires:

  1. For a credit card, pay off the entire amount owed, or withdraw all the money from the account. Write a statement on termination of the bank agreement. The bank, in turn, is obliged to give the client the rest of the money from his account within a week (the time can be specified in the application). Funds are received in cash or by transfer (payment order).
  1. Employees of the banking institution will offer to sign the appropriate termination statement and ask for a card, which is destroyed in front of the client. If the card is not returned to the bank, it is immediately blocked and becomes unusable.
  1. After completing the closure of the bank card and account, a certificate should be required, which confirms the fact of closure. It is possible to terminate the bank account agreement on the initiative of the institution, in accordance with Article 859 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation. You can submit an application to close a card account at any branch of Sberbank. And if the holder intends to receive the balance of the card account not at the place where the account is maintained, then it is necessary to additionally fill out an application for the transfer.
