The program of the water excursion along the Small Sea:

Day 1

Meeting point: Khuzhir / Kharantsy settlement. Group gathering at 11:00. Boarding a ship / boat.

We go to the most big Island Small Sea - Ogoy. Ogoy resembles Olkhon Island in shape, which, in turn, repeats Lake Baikal in shape! The place is sacred and very unusual, it has powerful energy!

In 2005, the Buddhist Stupa of ENLIGHTENMENT - overcoming obstacles - was erected on the island of Ogoy. It contained various objects that carry great meaning in Buddhism. The main relic is a statuette that resembles a female silhouette. This figurine represents the mother of all Buddhas.

You need to walk to the Stupa with bare feet, after having plunged into the water sacred lake... Walking around the Stupa 33 circles, you will feel the enlightenment of the mind, understanding of situations and problematic issues that haunted you earlier.

But be careful! Being on the island of Ogoy, in no case should the purity and harmony of this sacred place be disturbed. You cannot take and move stones / objects, pick flowers, use foul language, swear, etc.

After visiting the island of Ogoy, we go to the healing springs, where you will have a unique opportunity to taste mineral water containing silver.

Lunch on the ship or in a cafe on the beach.

On the way back You will have the opportunity to admire the amazingly proud birds - cormorants. For a long time there were no cormorants on Lake Baikal, and only in last years these always long-awaited guests began to visit the Siberian lake again.

If you're lucky, everyone's favorite seals will greet you friendly, basking in the sun in their favorite places.

Return to Khuzhir at approximately 17:00 local time.

Meals: lunch.

Ogoy Island - located in the south of the Small Sea between Cape Shara-Shulun and Kurminsky Bay on west bank Lake Baikal, just 1 km from west coast Olkhon islands. Small uninhabited island has an elongated shape, measuring 2.9 by 0.6 km, and it can literally be looked at from one edge to the other.

There is almost no vegetation on it, but gophers, gulls and even snakes live. The main attraction of the island of Ogoy is considered to be the snow-white Buddhist Suburga or the Stupa of Enlightenment; it is for her sake that tourists come to the island with an excursion. (And in fact, they are not coming here to look at the gophers 8)

How to get to Ogoy island on Baikal

As I wrote above, you can get to Ogoy Island with an excursion from.

  • In the summer they go here by water on ships and boats, and in the winter they bring tourists on the ice - on a "tablet" or by private transport.
  • Average cost from 1-1.5 thousand per person. In time, if you go from Olkhon and back and spend about 2-3 hours there, the excursion takes almost the whole day.

Both small motor boats and large cruise ships come here with tourists.

I don’t know why, but the passengers of the ship took off their shoes before going up to the Stupa. Perhaps, according to some beliefs and canons, the “magic” of the Stupa of Enlightenment will not affect those who came to it in boots, or maybe they all just wanted people to walk along local bumps and stones on bare feet, which I don't know, I don't know.

But the sand on Ogoy Island attracted my attention much more than other people's shoes, and all because it here is of an unusual garnet color. And this is not at all a coincidence, the sand on Ogoy Island is really made of real pomegranates, I know for sure when I was in the Baikal Museum in Listvyanka, scientists told us about this and I even looked at such sand through a microscope. And now I look, so, with the naked eye, and I show you. eight)

The road from the coast, where boats and ships dock, is small, but rather steep, that's why I was surprised that people went barefoot, I honestly wouldn't have dared.

Well, even at that time such a wind was raging that it was difficult to resist on our feet, in fact, this can be seen from this ritual structure on which the believers and those who observe Buddhist rituals as a tourist experience, tying their "hadaki".

As you can see, in this case there are not only colored ribbons hadaks, but someone even donated their own cap.

Stupa of Enlightenment or Suburgan

The Stupa of Enlightenment is the main and only attraction of Ogoy Island (in addition to gophers, of course), it is located on the very high point islands at an altitude of 512 meters in the center of the island.

The Stupa of Enlightenment was built in 2005 according to all Buddhist canons, the construction was supervised by a lama from Bhutan. This stupa has a three-stage structure topped with a dome and a spire, the height of the entire Stupa is 8 meters.

The stupa of Enlightenment and Conquest of Demons contains many Buddhist relics, including the statue of the Female Form, the Mother of all Buddhas, the Sole Mother of Troma Nagmo, water from all seas and oceans, earth from all continents, weapons, sacred manuscripts and many other relics.

They say that in combination with the special pure energy of the island of Ogoy, where people have never lived, they have tripled magical power. And in Buddhism, Enlightenment plays a special role, embodying the main goal of the Buddhist life path - Self-knowledge and the achievement of full Enlightenment through this.

The special mission of all Buddhist stupas is to neutralize negative energy and remove any obstacles in achieving the intended path. In Asia, Suburgans are ubiquitous, even on Lake Baikal it is not uncommon, remember at least the Suburgans near the Khoimorsky Datsan c.

I will show some more photos of Ogoy Island:

Rituals on Ogoy Island

Naturally, around so iconic place necessarily have their own mysterious rituals, the observance of which leads to the fulfillment of all desires. After all, not so much tourists go to just look at this very Stupa, but to touch the shrine and at least slightly increase their luck.

Buddhists believe that circumambulation around Suburgan or sacred mountain peaks helps to cleanse negative energy and "recharge" the energy of the sacred place. Tourists do not argue and all as one observe the rituals.

Some people say that you can walk around the Stupa 9 times to make your wish come true, but the most earnest believers say that you need to walk around the stupa at least 108 times and certainly barefoot, then that very Enlightenment will come.

It is believed that the Stupa is able to literally "dissolve" negative energy and enable the forces of good to fulfill people's desires. Three gorroo circles should be passed around the stupa in a clockwise direction. The first circle should go with a request for forgiveness, the second circle with gratitude for everything that you have, and the third circle should go with your deepest desire in mind.

For greater reliability, and in order to follow all the rules of this ritual, you should walk barefoot around the stupa and turn your palms to the sky, repeat to yourself the Buddha's mantra "Loving eyes": OM MANI PAD ME HUM with a wish of happiness to all living beings on the planet.

In addition to the Stupa itself, there is a small lighthouse and an observation deck on the island.

In the center of this stone platform, there is a Buddhist symbol carved directly on the stones, similar to the “Zero kilometer” mark next to Red Square in Moscow.

No one has really explained what it is, but tourists also readily make offerings to the spirits of the island at this place.

And opposite the stupa there is almost a real "sofa" with a carpet thrown over it.

There is also a souvenir kiosk on the island, but at the time of our visit it was not working.

We spent about 2 hours on Ogoy Island, this time was enough to go around the entire island almost along the perimeter (due to strong wind I didn't really want to walk), and go around the Stupa itself and take pictures.

So now I can safely say that I have been to Ogoy Island and have seen one of the famous sights of Lake Baikal with my own eyes. Well, I also walked around the Stupa several times, so that I will refuse my luck? No, no, no way! eight)

And Olkhon Island starts at 10:00, or even earlier, we were accordingly late for them. The only excursion that started at 11:00 was called "A Trip to the Holy Springs", its price is 1300 rubles / person. This is a one-day boat trip by boat with a stop at Ogoy Island and visiting the holy springs

We were offered a transfer to the pier for 200 rubles. (!?) Or walk. RUB 200 - somehow very cool, to the pier 20 minutes walk along the street. Baikal. We, of course, decided that we would go on foot. About forty people were already on the dock, after a while two ships approached, we all loaded up and set sail. I will not describe the trip on the ship itself, you need to experience it yourself, everything around is very beautiful and it is difficult to describe in words.

The only advice is to take warm things on boat trips: jackets, sweaters, etc. The wind on the water is very cold, although we were at the end of July, and in general it was warm on the island + 25-27. And also take your swimwear with you - the excursion route sometimes passes through warm lakes Baikal, where you can swim to your heart's content.

After an hour of our sailing, we landed on the island of Ogoy. Our guide was a young girl (as it turned out, the schoolgirl was also called Alena or Lena, her parents run the Internet cafe "Nerpenok"), who explained that Ogoy Island is a holy place and nothing can be taken away from here: stones, flowers (especially red).

It is only possible, as in all holy places on Lake Baikal, to leave gifts to local Gods in the form of coins, sweets, cigarettes, someone even left sneakers ...

There is a Buddhist stupa on the island, which was built by the wife of a local oil magnate on her own initiative. The stupa was consecrated by the Dalai Lama himself. Inside it are the holy relics of Buddhism, weapons of famous personalities, in particular, Kolchak's sword, and some other valuables from dredges. metals. A stupa is a message to people (or someone else, maybe aliens) of future generations about our civilization. Although I hardly believe that there is a drag. metals - in this case, the mortar would have been dismantled brick by brick long ago.

The guide also said that here on this island near the stupa one can spiritually cleanse oneself from various experiences, worries, problems, etc. To do this, you need to walk around the stupa barefoot 8 times along a path laid in advance with a stone. Because Probably, everyone had a lot of problems and worries, and the weather was good, the majority agreed to "arrange a round dance" around the stupa. I did not feel any special cleansing, maybe later I realize ...

Then it was time for lunch. We were fed freshly boiled fish soup from the famous Baikal omul and vegetable salad. We had a good lunch, everything was delicious.

The next point of our water excursion around Lake Baikal is the mainland and holy springs. On the mainland, we were promised real Buryat poses, which are cooked better here than anywhere else. After another hour by boat, we landed on the mainland, where a big bummer awaited us. There were no poses, and in general there was no food, and the prices for drinks were so high that all desire to drink was gone. I wonder what the cost of the poses would be? On Olkhon it is 30 rubles / piece. Here it would probably be all 50-60.

For about 35 minutes we climbed the mountains to the springs. The road passed through a coniferous forest: fresh air, around the mountain, Baikal splashing behind. The hand is still reaching for the camera, although more than a hundred photographs of Lake Baikal have already been taken, it is still impossible to resist.

Well, finally, there are the holy springs. There are two of them: one for women, the other for men. The water in them is, of course, healing. Helps with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. One source helps women, the other helps men. A line of people wishing to cure their stomach immediately lined up next to them. One guy drank from a female source, he was told, now that's it, the breast will grow like a woman's. We took bottles and drank. After a long journey through the heat, the cold water came in handy.

On the way back, the girl-guide promised us to swim in a warm lake, but because my friend and I were not told that we needed to take a swimsuit and swimming trunks, we were not threatened. While everyone was swimming, I wrote the lines that you are reading now.

But now our journey across Lake Baikal is coming to an end, or rather not the journey itself, but only one of the excursions. Everyone returns from the lake, and we set off home. Most of all from this excursion around Lake Baikal I liked the trip on the ship itself (the ship, of course, is strongly said, something like a launch).

Before that, we traveled from the ferry to Khuzhir by bus, now almost all the way by boat. Open from the sea beautiful views to Olkhon Island and the mainland. Photos can be viewed in the Gallery. The springs and the stupa are, of course, interesting, but a boat trip across Lake Baikal is something that cannot be described in words !!!

Buddhist stupa on about. Ogoy - holy springs

One of the most popular excursions along the Small Sea

The excursion starts from the pier of the Malomorskiy Rybzavod in the village of Khuzhir. The duration of the excursion is 7-8 hours. An experienced guide will accompany you.

Be sure to take warm things on the excursion: jackets, sweaters, etc. The wind on the water is coldish. And also take your swimwear with you - the route of the excursion passes through the warm lakes of Lake Baikal, where you can swim.

The most beautiful route is a journey along the Small Sea towards a unique phenomenon for these places - the Buddhist Stupa and then to the opposite shore to the healing mineral springs.. From the sea open magnificent views to Olkhon Island and the mainland.

After an hour of sailing, land on Ogoy Island. You are on the island for about an hour. Here you will be amazed by its grandeur Buddhist Stupa. It is believed that if you go around the stupa three times clockwise, your most cherished wish will come true. Next to the stupa, you need to leave coins as a gift to local deities, and tie a colored ribbon to the tree.

After visiting the stupa on the ship, you will be fed with freshly boiled fish soup from the famous Baikal omul.

The next point of the water excursion around Lake Baikal is the mainland and holy springs. It's an hour and a half on the way.

On the mainland, you have 3 hours at your disposal. You can order real Buryat poses. And then take a walk to the source. The source is 2.5 km away. The road goes through a coniferous forest, slightly uphill, inland. At the source, you can collect the healing water of the Holy Spring, while for a man, water is taken from a male source, and for women - from a female

Returning to the anchorage of the ship, you have time to swim in the warm lake, which is nearby. The lake is separated from Baikal by a sand spit.

We return home past the rocky island of Elenka, where you can see and photograph the cormorant settlement.

Ogoy Island located in the center of the Small Sea, length 6 km. The stupa on the island was built in 2005 and is called the "Stupa of Enlightenment". The construction lasted 3 summer months and was attended by volunteers from different cities and countries (St. Petersburg, Moscow, Irkutsk, London, New York). The stupa is 5.8 meters wide and 6.4 meters high. During the construction, about 360 tons of sand and cement were used. The architecture of the stupa always respects the symbolism of its five main constituent parts. In turn, these parts correspond to five primary elements: pommel - space, spire - wind, dome - fire, stairs - water, base - earth.

It is believed that Buddhist stupas are designed to dissolve all negative obstacles in the world, favorably contribute to the prosperity of the area where they are built and benefit people, especially those who visit these stupas.

For the first time in Russia, in one place, such an extensive library (with a total weight of about 750 kg) of original Buddhist texts sent specifically to be inserted into a stupa from different countries... Along with the originals of Buddhist texts, electronic versions on CDs are also included in the stupa for posterity. In addition to ancient manuscripts, a total of 2.5 tons of various mantras were invested in the stupa, as well as sacred Buddhist relics and substances, various minerals and shells from the oceans, the holy lands of Jerusalem and Jordan. Egypt, Mexico, from various Christian places in the north of Russia and the Moscow region, water from all oceans, rusty bodies of aerial bombs from the 1st and 2nd world wars, millet, grain, buckwheat, piercing tools: pitchfork, scythe, pick, tongs, an ax, a saw, a saber, as well as a central enclosure - a bronze statuette of the dakini Troma Nagmo, to which this stupa is dedicated.

Evening walk (2 hours)

Departing from Khuzhir, the ship goes around Cape Burkhan - a rock that has long become a symbol of Lake Baikal. Then the ship sails along the Saraisky Bay, a favorite place for vacationers. Having traveled around the Kharantsy island with its grottoes, the ship goes to the neighboring bay, where there are two more islands, better known as "Belenky" and "Crocodilchik". Here you can feed the seagulls.

Water-land Khoboy (7-8 hours)

This excursion also starts from the Khuzhir pier, one part of the tourists travels by car, and the second part floats on a ship; all change back.

The most popular of all routes. Khoboy (translated from Buryat as "fang") is the northernmost cape on Olkhon Island. A spectacular pillar-shaped rock, resembling an outwardly sharp canine, from the sea side has a pronounced resemblance to the profile of a woman's head with a bust. One of sacred sites, there are many legends about him. A grandiose view of the Small and Big Sea opens from the cape. From the side of the water, the island looks completely different.

Car excursions.

Cape Khoboy - Uzury pad, 40 km, 5 hours

Cape Khoboy- This is the northernmost tip of Olkhon Island, the place where the Small and Big Baikal unite their waters.

This route is the most popular of the excursions we offer to Baikal, as it passes along the most scenic spots Olkhon and allows you to see all the natural diversity of the island. Along the way, you will be able to do beautiful pictures Lake Baikal and Olkhon Island.

First, the road will lead you through a small forest to the village of Kharantsy, then along the edge of the forest along small hills to the village of Khalgai. On the way, you can see the small islands of Kharantsa and Yedor, located near the coast. Further, the route passes through the village of Peschanka, where in the post-war years there were a fish reception center and a prison camp. Peschanaya Bay fully justifies its name - you will see sand dunes and stilt trees, the roots of which have been exposed from constant winds and create bizarre shapes. Many tourists note that the area here is very similar to the Baltic coast.

Beyond the Sandy road goes through the mountains to the Sasy area, where the steppe landscape begins. From here, on the way to Cape Khoboy, you will make several stops, and your guide will take you to the unique rock complexes and tell the legends about Lake Baikal. Here the Cape Sagan-Khushun (also often called the "Three Brothers") stands out with its majestic beauty, about which the writer Valentin Rasputin, who admired the power of these places, wrote.

And finally, before you is Cape Khoboy, sacred place revered by shamanists. Translated from the Buryat language, Khoboy is translated as "fang", but many of you will be able to discern in it the clear outlines of a female figure. According to legend, this is the wife of a majestic shaman, whom the gods turned into a stone block for her sins.

Once at Cape Khoboy, you can feel yourself not just on the edge of the island, but on the edge of the earth, because in front there are the endless expanses of Lake Baikal, which allow you to feel like a small grain of sand in this kingdom of beauty and nature.

Since ancient times, this area has been shrouded in many myths and legends that guides will tell you during a picnic in the Uzura valley. Uzury is one of the few places in the north of the island where you can go down to the coast. Here you can take a leisurely stroll along the coast and take wonderful photos of Lake Baikal. After a delicious lunch and rest, full of impressions and emotions, we go back to Khuzhir.

Idebe Pad - Shara-Nur lake, 5-6 hours

This excursion around Olkhon Island runs through the forest part of the island and will allow you to see the vastness of Big Baikal. First, you will drive through the Siberian taiga by car, and then walk down to the picturesque Idiba valley. The silence of the forest and the beauty of these places will help you feel a real unity with nature.

After a leisurely forest walk and a picnic in the meadow, you will go to the only forest lake on Olkhon, famous for its healing mud. “Shara-Nuur” is translated from the Buryat language as “Yellow Lake”. Long ago, local hunters noticed that local waters and muds have a healing effect. Since then, the hydrogen sulfide mud from Shara-Nuur has been successfully used for treatment, especially well for the treatment of joints and skin diseases.

Due to the fact that the lake is surrounded by forest on all sides, it is very warm here, you can swim and sunbathe.

Lake Khankhoi, 20 km, 3-4 hours

The small lake Khankhoi attracts tourists primarily because the water here is warmer than on the Small Sea, and is suitable for swimming not only for adults, but also for children. The lake is separated from Baikal by a small channel and a sand spit that forms a beach. We advise all lovers to soak up the warm sun to choose this particular excursion to Baikal - a wonderful Baikal tan is guaranteed!

The lake is also excellent for fishing for weed fish, and around the lake you can find many ancient archaeological sites, stone walls and fortifications.

Tyshkine pad - Shara-Nur lake, 40 km, 4-5 hours

Tyshkine is the only place on the eastern side of Olkhon Island, which can be reached by car. In the old days there was a Buryat ulus, now there is only one house. A very beautiful area, a stream with clear spring water runs along the valley, surrounded by willow and currant bushes. The ravine is surrounded on both sides by high mountains and ends on the shore with a small bay. Rocky shores on the sides of the bay - comfortable seats for those who like fishing for Baikal grayling. In Tyshkine, archaeologists have discovered sites and burials of ancient people, from the Neolithic era to the period of ethnographic modernity.

On the way back, you will make a stop at Lake Shara-Nur, where you can relax and swim.

Cape Khargoy - Lake Khanhoy, 70 km, 6-7 hours

This Olkhon excursion will allow you not only to enjoy the beautiful panoramas of the Small Sea and the steppe part of the island, but also to get acquainted with the ancient archaeological sites.

At Cape Khargoy there is an ancient Kurykan defensive wall with a length of 185 m. It is made of stones and, apparently, was built to protect against enemy attacks. Although there are many other different versions of its origin, which our guide will tell you about. From the cape, you can also see Ogoy Island, where the Buddhist stupa of enlightenment is located.

You can get to this small island by choosing our excursion around Lake Baikal “Holy spring - Buddhist stupa on the island. Ogoy. "
