Trains carrying Russians to the Black Sea have always been popular and in demand. With the beginning holiday season thousands of people choose this safe, reliable and familiar form of transport. The train Moscow - Sukhum is no exception, as evidenced by the cars filled to capacity.

Every year the tourist flow to Abkhazia is increasing. Vacationers tired of the high cost and cramped conditions Russian resorts are increasingly giving preference to the beautiful Abkhaz nature, free beaches and friendly locals.

However, many are still scared off by the difficulties of the road to Abkhazia: troubles at the border, bad transport connection, the chaos of taxi drivers and minibuses, recklessly driving along serpentines and taking impressive sums for it. The Moscow - Sukhum train helps to easily and comfortably avoid these problems.

Train description

Trains ran regularly between Sukhumi and Moscow until 1992, when service was interrupted due to the war between Abkhazians and Georgians. After its graduation, Abkhazia came to its senses for a long time, its economic and political state was in a deep crisis. The railroad tracks were abandoned and fell into disrepair.

The first train went along this road again after its overhaul, in the fall of 2004. At first, there were only two trailed cars that were part of the Moscow-Adler train. But then the obvious demand for the direction prompted the leadership of Russian Railways to launch a full-fledged train 305С Moscow - Sukhum.

Passenger reviews were mostly positive, so the flight still exists today. It runs two or four trains, ten to fifteen cars each, depending on the season. You can buy tickets for seats of different categories: SV, reserved seat or compartment. The movement is year-round. From May to the end of October, the train runs daily, the rest of the year on odd numbers.

Passengers pass the border without disembarking from the carriages. WITH Russian side customs control takes place at Vesselaya station and lasts an hour, from the Abkhaz side - at Tsandrypsh station and lasts half an hour. The train is equipped with dry closets and air conditioning.

Dignity

  • There is no alternative. To get from the capital to Abkhazia without a change is possible only by train 305С Moscow - Sukhum. Reviews of people who drove their own car are very ambiguous and often sad. After all, this is due to the inevitability of overcoming almost 1800 kilometers by car in the summer, with children, along a serpentine road, spending up to several hours at the border, beware of Caucasian reckless drivers and greedy traffic cops. Airplanes do not fly to Abkhazia. The bus from Moscow runs haphazardly and the journey takes almost 30 hours.
  • Easy border crossing. Inspection and verification of documents take place quite quickly and without leaving the car.
  • Polite guides.
  • Air conditioner and dry closets. These are the most important attributes of a trip to the south in summer, without them the stuffiness and along the sea can turn the trip into flour.
  • Convenient schedule. Departure from Moscow in the evening, there is time to settle down and have dinner before bedtime. The train arrives in Sukhum in the morning, the vacationer can easily find accommodation or settle in the already booked accommodation, go to the beach, or walk around the city.

Flaws

The disadvantages of the Moscow-Sukhum train cannot be ignored. Feedback from disgruntled passengers is a subjective thing, as are laudatory assessments. But for a person who decides to go along this route, it is better to be prepared in advance for such possible inconveniences as:

  • Not very new linen and shabby condition of the carriages. But here it is a matter of chance, there are both relatively old and new cars in the train.
  • Air conditioning systems break down sometimes. At the border, air conditioning is turned off throughout the train.
  • High prices in the restaurant, but this is already the norm for trains.
  • There are many noisy companies and restless children. On the one hand, the minus is obvious, but on the other hand, it is inevitable. After all, family trips to the south are often made purely for the health and joy of children.
  • Long and numerous stops.

Train Station in Sukhum is definitely worth paying attention to. The Sukhumi railway station, as well as, is abandoned and, unfortunately, is in disrepair.

Railway station in Sukhum: description and architecture

The project of the Sukhum railway station was carried out by architects Lola and Levan Mushkudiani. The station was made in the style characteristic of that time - the Stalinist Empire style.

The railway station and seaport in the city of Sochi were built in the same style. I really love the building of the railway station in Sochi and, in my opinion, if the Sukhum railway station is restored, it will in no way be inferior to the Sochi railway station.

Building Seaport in Sochi

Sukhumi railway station in the 50s of the last century was considered large and could simultaneously accommodate up to 1000 passengers. In addition, it had separate waiting rooms for suburban and long-distance trains, and separate exits to the platforms were an innovation at that time and were recommended for use in other cities of the Soviet Union.

The building itself was faced with marble and granite, the windows and doors were made of chestnut, and the floor in the station restaurant was covered with parquet. Unfortunately, little remains of the former greatness. The building is completely abandoned, in places overgrown with figs and other plants.

In 2016, an attempt was made to reconstruct the station, which began with the repair of the roof. The building was surrounded by a fence, but due to a lack of funds, the renovation was suspended.

At the moment, only sales cash desks are functioning train tickets located in a building next to the train station.
