Kega lighthouse
The structure is the tallest lighthouse in all of Southeast Asia. It rises above a rocky island opposite the sand dunes. From the former fishing village of Mui Ne, now a resort, you can drive to the lighthouse in an hour, you have to go south, and from Phan Thiet to the lighthouse is only 4 km. The lighthouse was built in 1897 by the architect Shenawat. The height of the structure is 35 m, and the height of the rock on which the lighthouse stands is 30 m. Thus, the Kega lighthouse rises 65 m above sea level.
An interesting fact: each stone of the structure was precisely calculated and took its place in the scheme of the lighthouse; therefore, the work of the lighthouse builders was extremely facilitated.
Previously, a powerful lamp played the role of a searchlight, spreading the light of the lighthouse over a radius of 40 km. An internal spiral staircase ran up to the top of the lighthouse, you have to overcome 182 steps. All components of the lighthouse were imported from France.
Red canyon (red dunes)
Not far from the resort of Phan Thiet along the coast of Mounier, there is a strip of extraordinary beauty. This is the so-called Red Canyon, as if painted in different colors at the whim of an impressionist artist. The rich hues of the terrain red are bestowed with a mixture of metals. A particularly mesmerizing sight opens to the eyes of tourists at sunset, when the canyon seems to be on fire. The swirling wind creates whimsical sand dunes, and this place opens up in a new way every time.
Red Canyon is included in the mandatory excursion program of any tour of Phan Thiet and MUI ne. Hiking along the stream to a picturesque waterfall is organized here. In the canyon, against the backdrop of red dunes, newlyweds love to take photos.
White dunes
This natural attraction, coupled with the Lotus Lake, is the most beautiful in the vicinity of Phan Thiet and MUI ne resorts. You can go on an organized excursion (cost $ 10) or hit the road on your own on a rented bike. The approximate travel time is 40 minutes and the distance is 35 km from Phan Thiet north along the coast.
The white dunes are white sand hills and cover an area of 10 square meters. km. The average height of the hills is about 70 m. From the place of disembarkation of passengers to the dunes, the path leads through picturesque surroundings, including past Lake Lotosov. By the lake, you can admire the beautiful flowers and take amazing photos. It is pleasant to ride on the white dunes on an ATV rented right there ($ 20 for 20 minutes). Mount Taku
25 km west of Phan Thiet, there is a very picturesque lonely mountain with a mountain pagoda on top. Be sure to trek Taku through an exotic rain forest full of outlandish birds and animals. If you don't feel like walking, you can take the funicular, which runs continuously, and in the absence of tourists - about every half hour.
At the top of the mountain you will find a huge statue of the Buddha lying in nirvana, and the expression on his face is absolutely mesmerizing - there is so much bliss on him.
Wang Tuy Tu Temple
In this old temple (built in 1762) skeletons of more than a hundred whales are kept. The locals worship the remains of the magnificent marine animals because they believe in the legend that whales took anglers to the shore during a storm. When the whales were thrown ashore for unexplained reasons, their carcasses were dragged to the temple. In honor of the whales in Phan Thiet, they even hold holidays dedicated to them.
The sights of the Phan Thiet resort are not limited to the named ones. Also interesting for acquaintance:

A stay on Phan Thiet can bring a lot of positive impressions if you behave carefully and know some of the nuances:
- it is better to buy fruits and vegetables, as well as freshly caught marine life at the Hàm Tiến market early in the morning (Mui Ne), as in the shops the price tags are twice as high, especially in the evening;
- more or less fresh food can be bought at Phan Thiet's supermarket chain Coop Mart and Lotte Mart. But be sure to check the expiration dates!
- There is no public transport on Phan Thiet and MUI ne. To services of tourists - bikes and mopeds. The vehicle is rented with a helmet, which must be returned later. Watch your helmets and don't leave them on the bike! Helmets are often stolen. If you don't know how to ride a motorcycle, you will have to buy excursions.

In fact, due to soil erosion, the beaches here are disappointing rather than enchanting. Some of them are filled with concrete, others are located close to a busy road, which means they are very popular. For a beach holiday in Vietnam, it is best to go to Phu Quoc Island.

Hon Rum beach and water attractions

Most of all in Mui Ne I liked Hon Rom beach. It is not the most popular among tourists, because it is located a little in the distance, but it is calm and very beautiful here. This is one of the places in Mui Ne that I recommend visiting if you want a break from the hustle and bustle.
Opposite the beach there are rocks of bizarre shapes, which are covered with dense green vegetation in the rainy season, and with yellowish grass in the dry season. From a distance, the mountain looks like a haystack, which is why the place was named "Hon Rom", which means "island of straw".
Many people come to Mui Ne to surf. The long sandy strip and windy weather make Mui Ne an ideal surfing destination. On the other hand, because of the high waves, it is inconvenient to swim, and children should not be allowed into the water at all. Diving in Mui Ne is not a good idea for exactly the same reason. For this entertainment, it is better to choose a beach in neighboring Phan Thiet.

Not without the distinctive sight of Mui Ne. Mui Ne Fishing Village is a great place to watch local fishermen and eat freshly caught seafood. I highly recommend arriving in the village before 10 am. Fairy Stream in Mui Ne

Mui Ne has a lot of interesting things. Take Fairy Creek in Vietnam. Not the Grand Canyon, of course, but also a very beautiful place.
Fairy Stream Mui Ne is a small red canyon in Mui Ne. It was called red because of the dramatic combination of red, orange, pink and white colors. Fay Creek is located 18 km northeast of Phan Thiet. This is a water rift that is located next to Hon Rom Island (the already familiar thatched island). On one side there are white and red sand dunes, on the other, coconut trees and flowers.
You can explore Fairy Creek on your own. You just need to go upstream of the river, at the end you will see a small waterfall. Then you can turn around and go back. The walk up and down the canyon will take an hour and a half.
It is very hot to walk along the coast during the day. You can take off your shoes and wade through the river flowing from Dinh Hint Tien Mountain. For the most part, the depth will reach your ankle and only in some places will it rise to the knee.
There are 2 "official" legends about Fairy Creek, which are told by the guides:
- One says that previously only wives and daughters of high-ranking officials were allowed to swim here;
- Another, that fairies swam in the stream and in truth, and therefore it has healing powers.
There is also a third legend. That the name of the stream is a tourist attraction. What to believe - choose for yourself.
Wear more comfortable clothes and bring a change of shoes if necessary. Get wet here - once or twice. Here you can ride an ostrich for 100,000 VND. Vietnamese children and adolescents will pester you with an offer to guard your shoes for a fee or to be your guide. If you are not going to use their services, it is better to refuse right away, otherwise they will demand money for walking with the swami next to you.
More active travelers can climb to the top of the sand dunes and rock formations. From there, you will have a breathtaking view of the reddish waters of the river and bizarre stalagmites. Fairy Stream (Suoi Tien in Vietnamese) is free to enter.

Dunes of red and white sand

The red and white sand dunes in Mui Ne are one of the main attractions in the region and a veritable mini-desert in Vietnam. There are many tour operators in Mui Ne who organize day trips to the dunes, but you can easily visit them yourself.
The white dunes are composed of yellow and white sand. They are very reminiscent of the Sahara. These are the largest dunes in the region. Locals call them "Bau Trang", which translates as "white lake". Here you will find many food and drink stalls. They usually huddle near pine trees, where you can relax in the shade.
The dunes are located 26 km northeast of Mui Ne. On the way to the dunes, you will come across smaller formations of yellow and white sand, the main thing is not to confuse them with the main dunes.
There is another attraction next to the white dunes - Lotus lake... Here you can rent a boat, but swimming is strictly prohibited. The lake is deep - 22 meters, and it is very easy to get entangled with your feet in the stems of the lotus.
Things to consider: It makes sense to come here when the lotus lake is blooming, the rest of the time it is unremarkable. Lotus bloom in Vietnam occurs from early July to late September, the second wave of flowering is shorter and falls in November.

The red dunes of Mui Ne are smaller and closer to the resort - only 17 km away. It has red-brown sand with very beautiful hues that attract many photographers.
Best time to visit the dunes- is it morning or evening. The sand gets very hot during the day. Take plenty of water with you.
It is a lot of fun to ride the ATV on the dunes. Here you can also rent plastic sleds and ride from the dunes like from slides. The main thing is to find a good dune, because sand is constantly flowing from place to place. It is best to slide off dry sand. Many people fly kites here.
There is a very beautiful sunset in the red dunes and many locals come here in the evening for a picnic. The red and white dunes of Mui Ne have not left anyone indifferent.
Cham towers of Poshanu

A must-see in Mui Ne - the Po Shanu Cham Towers are conveniently located at the top of Ong Hoang Hill. The temple complex consists of three cham towers, built in the 8th century. Together with Po Dam Towers and My Son Nature Reserve, these ruins are among the landmarks of the ancient Champa Kingdom. The main tower is 15 meters high, while the other two are 12 and 5 meters high.
Archaeological excavations carried out in 1992-1995 have led to the discovery of several temples dating back to the 15th century. They were all dedicated to Princess Po Shanu, Daughter of King Para Chanh.
If you explore the past of these towers, you will find a fortress used by French and South Vietnamese troops, as well as a memorial in honor of the revolutionaries who launched an attack on the towers in 1947.
Due to its high location, it offers beautiful views of Phan Thiet and the coastline.
How to get there: the Cham towers can be reached from Mui Ne by bike, taxi or even on foot. A beautiful stone signpost with the inscription “Nhomdenthap Cham” will help you not to miss the tower.
The entrance to the territory of the temple complex will cost you 10,000 dong. If you arrive on your bike, you will need to pay an additional 2000 VND for parking.

Mount Taku and the reclining Buddha pagoda

The territory of Mount Taku occupies 250,000 square meters. lush rainforest, rare wildlife, limestone caves and ornate Buddhist shrines. Mount Taku is an hour's drive from Mui Ne. The top of the mountain can be reached in a 2-hour hike or a 10-minute cable car ride.
The first option is suitable for hardy hikers because you have to climb a steep staircase and then a winding path in the middle of the forest. At the end of the path, the Reclining Buddha awaits you. On the way, you will come across several small shrines and a restaurant. If you climb the mountain on your own, the entrance ticket to the temple complex will cost 15,000 VND for adults and 10,000 for children.
If you choose the cable car, you will need to pay 160,000 VND for a trip to the top of the mountain. This cost will include the round-trip funicular, entrance ticket and travel by electric car through the territory. The trip itself will take 6-10 minutes. Along the way, you will have breathtaking views of Thuan Nam Town, Ham Thuan An Sea Harbor and Ke Ga Lighthouse, as well as rice fields and dragon trees.
