New York, USA

Many American New Year films show us the events that take place in New York. And this is no accident, because this metropolis becomes the village of Santa Claus during the holidays. There are many people walking around here, dressed in various fairy-tale characters, music is playing on the streets, beautiful illumination illuminates the Manhattan building, and all the shops are decorated with hundreds of lights.

Directly on New Year's Eve, you can go to Times Square and watch the amazing snowfall of colorful confetti, popular celebrity shows, a laser show, as well as a crystal ball that descends from a skyscraper and symbolizes the beginning of the New Year. To get into this action, you will have to buy a ticket for $ 350. In addition, you can go to Gotham Hall, where you will pay about 200-300 dollars to enter and play the role of characters from Disney cartoons.

The best nightclubs in this city present New Year's programs for their guests. By the way, we can say that the entrance to the party will cost only about $ 130. And, of course, you can always celebrate the New Year in a chic restaurant overlooking Central Park or Manhattan.

Rome, Italy

Since Rome is the capital of the Catholic world, this status obliges Rome to prepare for the New Year holidays several months in advance. St. Paul's Cathedral is particularly attractive to the city's residents and tourists as it hosts the Christmas Mass, which, of course, is not easy to get to, but it does not take away the opportunity to participate in traditional street religious processions. During the New Year holidays, this city is famous for all kinds of Christmas fairs where you can buy wonderful gifts for your family and friends. Great Christmas promotions and discounts are held in stores at this time.

As a rule, after the family New Year's feast, residents of the city continue to celebrate in a local restaurant or stroll through the streets of Rome until the morning. Actually, we recommend going to the central squares to celebrate the New Year. A variety of music sounds here: jazz, classical, rock and much more. The most popular area among city guests and local residents is called Piazza del Popolo. By the way, do not worry about the fact that you will be cold outside at night - in winter in Rome the average temperature is +9 degrees Celsius.

Prague, Czech Republic

According to many tourists, Prague is interesting at any holidays and season. But on New Year's holidays, this city takes on a special atmosphere and is even more transformed. In the Czech Republic, on the eve of the New Year, another significant holiday is held - the day of St. Sylvester. Therefore, the Czechs have several reasons to have fun at the same time. On New Years, you can easily go to a restaurant and join a completely unfamiliar company.

You will spend about 100 euros per person on such fun, but there will be more than enough drinks and food. And the most coveted dish among Czechs on the festive table is lentils and baked carp with apples. It is these dishes that symbolize the attraction of happiness in the coming year. And remember, if you serve a bird, it will quickly fly away, taking good luck with it!

There is also one more unique place: Old Town Square, which is visited by a large number of people to listen to the chimes. This night brings all people together and makes them friends, so get ready for hugs, songs and dances. If you want a more relaxed atmosphere, then head to Wenceslas Square. And one more thing: finally, at the end of New Year's Eve, do not forget to touch the statue of Jan Nepomnutsky and, of course, make a wish. Local residents assure that in this way it will definitely come true. Come here and you will have pleasant and fantastic memories of celebrating the New Year.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

For lovers of real summer fun and those who lack the sun, we recommend this option. Rio de Janeiro is a city of festivals, constant traffic and carnivals. Celebrating the New Year is no exception. It is not without reason that about 700,000 tourists come here during this period, and the city authorities allocate huge funding to surprise them. Rio also hosts a carnival with loud music and fireworks. The Christmas tree is also in motion: it is lowered into the water on a special raft to the stunning fireworks.

One of the most incendiary shows in the world is the 20-minute fireworks display at Copacabana (a famous South American beach). Come here with your family, loved ones or even friends, fun is guaranteed!

This country well combines centuries-old traditions, high level of service, modernity and Arab culture. The Arab Emirates is considered a world center for tourism and trade. And in the city of Dubai itself is so beautiful that you can have a good time and celebrate the holidays all year round. You can spend New Year's Eve in one of the many clubs or restaurants, go to the sand pit and go skiing, go to the Bedouins, go to the emerald oasis, or just take a walk in the festive city. And if you are a snow lover, then we recommend heading to the center of Dubai, where a large indoor ski center is at your service.

Sydney, Australia

In this country, the New Year begins earlier than in other parts of the world. This continent seems to be the starting point for everyone else's celebration. It is surprising that such a "winter" holiday takes place here in the midst of summer. All of Australia is replete with a large number of different events: sports, concerts, chants, outdoor fun.

A huge highlight is undoubtedly the largest fireworks display on the planet. It launches in Sydney Harbor. Tourists claim that there is no equal on Earth for such a spectacle. Therefore, no one gets upset about New Year's traffic jams, noise, high prices, crowds of people who, in the amount of 1.5 million people, come to Sydney for such a fireworks. Each year, the fireworks are dedicated to a different theme.

Finland, Rovaniemi

Everyone knows that Finland is considered the most New Year country in the world. Here everything is covered with snow, you can ride a sleigh, harnessed by a couple of reindeer, or go winter fishing for days and nights. But the main attraction is the presence here of a colleague of Santa Claus - a foreign Santa Claus.

We recommend that you definitely go to his residence. Such a pleasure will cost you about 60 euros per person. And when you return, check out the husky farm. They are located near every tourist town. The price for this is 75 euros and if you want you can even buy a dog.

Georgia, Tbilisi

Tourists fall in love with Georgia literally at once. Everything here is amazing and unique. And most importantly, you don't need a visa. You can spend several days unforgettable: skiing along the snow-capped peaks, collecting spring primroses, sheltering in an old castle or monastery from the rain, having a picnic on the grass and walking along the hot sand of the Black Sea coast of Colchis.

There, even in December, you can easily sunbathe and pick ripe tangerines and lemons. In addition, there are hospitable wonderful people everywhere who will tell about their country, treat you with goodies in the most cozy and welcoming restaurants, give you the best of home wines and make a lot of efforts to make everyone feel welcome.

Vietnam, Phan Thiet

Vietnam is the complete opposite of the usual New Years concept. But this option will also appeal to you if you are a lover of variety or exoticism. Here you will find them. After all, the whole history of this amazing country is built on stories and legends, landscapes of incredible beauty, cuisine is quite peculiar, as in all Asian countries, and the beauty of the underwater world is breathtaking even for the most inveterate diver. You can celebrate the New Year at the Phan Thiet resort on the white beach.

Austria Vienna

Vienna is a small city, but there is plenty of variety. If you come here a little earlier, you can see Christmas markets, buy all kinds of handmade toys, taste gingerbread and drink hot mulled wine. And you can celebrate the New Year itself in some coffee shop or restaurant, which are unique here and have the best culinary specialists.

This city is very cozy and compact, in just a couple of hours you can walk through the snow-covered parks, see the Gothic of St. Stephen's Cathedral, as well as the baroque of local churches, and just see all the luxury and grandeur of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. You can also see the palaces and warm up a little in a small restaurant. And if you stay a little longer, you can get to the Viennese ball, where you can dance heartily. If you are looking for where to fly for the New Year 2020 with a group of friends, take a look at Finland.

Finns prefer to celebrate the holiday not on the streets, but with their families, therefore a good option would be to rent a cottage for the period of Christmas and New Year's holidays.

You can rent both a lonely house in the forest, and a cottage located near ski resorts and SPA centers - depending on which type of vacation is closer to you.

Popular ski resorts where you can celebrate the New Year in Finland are Levi and Saariselkä. And for those who choose where to go for the New Year with children, you can advise the surroundings of the city of Rovaniemi in Lapland - from there it is easy to get to the residence of Santa Claus.

Switzerland

Switzerland has a big advantage over other European countries - at the end of December and January there is almost always snow (at least in the mountains). Real, shaggy, lying in large snowdrifts along streets and houses.

If you want to catch the holiday itself, it is better to go to Switzerland for Christmas, since the New Year is practically not celebrated in this country. For noisy festivities and festive fun it is worth choosing one of the major cities- Christmas markets are held there, sweets and souvenirs are sold.

If you want peace, you should choose one of the ski resorts: the celebrations there are not so large-scale, but there is an opportunity to enjoy the privacy and beautiful mountain landscapes.

The best option, in our opinion, is to celebrate Christmas in the city, and then go skiing or snowboarding to one of the Swiss resorts.

Flights. Air tickets to Zurich in December cost from 13,900 rubles; to Geneva - a little more expensive. Search for tickets to Switzerland →

Hotels. On the outskirts of Zurich, 2-3 star hotels can be rented for no less than 6,000 rubles, closer to the city center - even more expensive. The cost of more fashionable hotels is from 10,000 rubles per night. Find hotels in Zurich →.

In Geneva, hotel accommodation during the New Year holidays will be 10-20% cheaper.

Thailand

One of the most popular Asian New Year travel destinations is Thailand. Bangkok and Thailand's beach resorts Phuket and Pattaya are good places to celebrate.

In Bangkok, the holiday is celebrated everywhere, but the coolest place is the square in front of the Central World shopping center, where thousands of people gather to count down the last seconds of the outgoing year.

Then you can go to the Sirocco Mediterranean restaurant located on the 63rd floor of the skyscraper, or take a cruise along the Chao Phraya River - with cocktails and ten kinds of Thai dishes.

Going on vacation to Thailand, read our article Where is the best to go: Phuket or Pattaya. She will help you choose the right resort for your vacation.

If you are interested in inexpensive beach holidays abroad for the New Year, you can spend New Year's holidays in Phuket. In December and January there is excellent weather, the sea is suitable for swimming, there are all conditions for families with children.

For fans of noisy parties, we recommend going to the Koh Phangan Island for New Year 2020, where a grandiose New Year's party is held on the kilometer-long beach, gathering 20,000-30,000 people. It is better to book accommodation a few months before the New Year. And don't forget the buckets.

How to relax on New Year's Eve cheaper

  1. The most important - try to buy hotels and tickets as early as possible(in September - November, or generally in summer). Wherever you go, as the New Year approaches, the prices for tours and independent vacations are growing every day.
  2. If you are not critical of directly celebrating the New Year abroad, but want to plunge into the European Christmas culture or go to the sea and the beach, look for options with a return BEFORE or departure AFTER New Year's Eve. Such options can cost several times cheaper than a trip that includes New Year's Eve.
  3. Sales in Europe start in January - if shopping is important to you, plan your holidays for the New Year so as not to return to Russia at the very beginning of January.

We hope this selection of countries for holidays for the New Year 2020 in Russia and abroad will help you decide on a vacation spot for the New Year holidays!

Have you already planned your vacation? We will be glad to receive your comments, recommendations and feedback!

Those who want to plunge into a Christmas fairy tale at least for a while prefer to celebrate the New Year in Europe. The flight here is rather short, so it is relatively inexpensive. If you are still suffering from the throes of choice, I offer you my TOP-10 places where to celebrate the New Year in Europe.
Prague... This city is firmly in the top position as the most popular destination for celebrating Christmas and New Years. And all because you seem to find yourself in a fairy tale. Medieval streets and castles, street performances ... And if you are lucky and there will be snow during your arrival - the feeling of magic happening around you is simply inevitable!

Paris... The capital of France has forever earned a reputation as a city of lovers. I recommend coming here with your soul mate. After a little freezing after romantic walks, it will be no less romantic to sit in local cafes with a cup of coffee.

Istanbul... The former Constantinople is beautiful at any time of the year. In addition, it is relatively warm here that you can even walk along the Bosphorus by boat. Cozy local hookah cafes will make your evenings unique!

Lucerne... This small Swiss town on the shores of a beautiful lake will be a real discovery even for a seasoned traveler. Yes, vacation here is not cheap, but worth it. In Lucerne, you understand that here it is - a real fairy tale!

Transylvania, Romania... A favorite place for fans of the famous Count Dracula. Under the snow, the forests and castles of Transylvania acquire a special, ominous mystery. If you are one of those who like to tickle your nerves - this option is for you.

Budapest... The capital of Hungary in recent years has grown sharply in the ranking of the most popular cities in Europe. Tourists who have already visited the main capitals tend to Budapest. After all, here a noisy meeting of the most popular holiday can be combined with luxurious spa treatments in local baths.

Amsterdam will be an ideal meeting place for the New Year for young people and people who love fun. Sin City truly never sleeps. If you try hard, the trip can be quite cheap - book accommodation in one of the many hostels, and eat in Arab cafes.

Riga... If you still think that this is one of the places in the post-Soviet space, then you are greatly mistaken. Riga is a beautiful and very European city. In addition, we are so close to us that you can even get here by train.

Oslo... A great opportunity to spend your New Year's holidays in a traditional European setting. Everything will be here - fine dining, holiday rides, Christmas sales, and even snow!

And one more tip: when going to Europe for the New Year, you can plan your trip in order to see as much interesting as possible in a few days. For example, having celebrated the New Year in Prague, you can go to Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, Warsaw ... As they say, there would be a desire 🙂
