Islands rule

The country's territory is conditionally divided into the mainland and the island zone. It is the latter that optimally and colorfully advertises holidays in Greece. Where is the best place to rest, will tell you a list of places that have won the love of tourists. Let's see which islands are the most popular.

Corfu island

This place is recognized as one of the most visited. Its second name is the Emerald Isle. A riot of greenery and bright colors really reigns here. The island is located in the west of the country, it is the largest in area. The climate here is conducive to relaxation for almost all 365 days a year. You can not only enjoy the gentle and warm Ionian Sea, but also see many amazing things and places. This is the Achillion Palace, built in the 19th century in the Renaissance style. Next to it is a beautiful park filled with many antique statues. Do not forget to visit the Church of Spyridon built in 1589. Pilgrims come here to call for help the relics of Saint Spyridon, which are kept in a silver coffin. There are many monasteries, museums, Mount Pantokrator and many more interesting things on the island. If you don't know where is the best place to relax in Greece, then you can safely go to Corfu.

Island of rhodes

This place was marked by the international organization UNESCO. Historians claim that people lived here in the Neolithic era. In any case, for tourists this is an attractive corner of stunningly beautiful nature and a bright sun shining almost 300 days a year. If you love sights, then there are many of them in Rhodes: both natural and man-made. Be sure to visit the Old Part of the Island, the Palace of the Grand Masters, the port of Mandraki, the city of Lindos with its abundance of architectural monuments, the Petaloudes Butterfly Valley, the Museum of Natural History, and so on. You can go on for a long time. Believe me, your vacation will definitely turn out bright and eventful if you choose Rhodes.

The island of Crete

Where is the best place to relax in Greece by the sea? Definitely in Crete. It is here that there are the best resorts, an excellent infrastructure has been created, and the climate allows families with children to successfully and in the shortest possible time to pass acclimatization. If you are young, active and hungry for adventure and unforgettable emotions, you should choose the local resorts of Malia, Hersonissos, Stalida. There are magnificent beaches and a huge number of bars and discos here. If you want to know where it is better to relax in Greece with children, then you can go to the quieter areas of the island: Analipsi, Ammoudara, Gouves, etc. All of them are located in the central part. In general, anywhere on the coast there are interesting sights and excellent conditions for recreation.

Santorini island

This place has become famous among tourists for its exotic houses, made in blue and white, decorated with bright, colorful potted flowers. Santorini is not one island, but a group. The main thing that distinguishes this option is the abundance of spa centers, comfortable beaches and a measured atmosphere of peace and tranquility.

Chios island

Thinking where is the best place to relax in Greece? Reviews of tourists recommend those who have already visited most places in the country to come here. Chios is not yet very popular among Russian vacationers, but it's time to expand your horizons. Here you will be hospitably greeted by the locals, amazed to the depths of the soul by the wild nature around, will delight you with the cleanest sea and comfortable beaches. The peculiarity of this place is in the complete absence of the usual tourist bustle of world resorts. Looking for peace and tranquility? Then you are here.

Traveling with children

If you have children, do not rush to leave them with grandmothers when going on vacation. A properly planned and organized trip, even in the presence of restless toddlers, will turn out to be exciting and filled with positive emotions. Present your child with a fairy tale.

The location you choose in Greece depends on the age of the baby.

  • Up to 3 years old. You need a family resort with hotels offering babysitting services. It should have a large safe beach, a garden with soft grass on which the baby can run.
  • 4 to 6 years old. The best option is a house on an island with a kitchen and a cozy garden. A hotel with playgrounds and services for this age group of children is also suitable. But skipping long walks to the beach is exhausting.
  • 7 to 10 years old. At this age, kids will already be interested in all kinds of entertainment. So look for a resort with a water park, an aquarium, an amusement park, etc. It will be much more interesting for a kid to go to the zoo than to wander through the ancient ruins.
  • 11 to 13 years old. Teenagers prefer outdoor recreation - active sports.
  • From 14 to 16 years old. This is going to be tough for you. Usually children at this age crave beach entertainment and discos, and parents - to go to museums and relax in a siesta. You need to be able to find compromises, so it is important to choose a diverse resort.

Where is the best place to relax in Greece with children

Large islands with excellent infrastructure are suitable for you. These include Crete, Lesvos, Rhodes. These destinations are considered classic for tourists looking for family opportunities.

When traveling with children, accessibility is also important. From this perspective, you can prefer the island of Symi.

Avoid trips to islands designed for couples in love. You won't find the infrastructure you need on them. These include, for example, the island of Folegandros.

If we talk about mainland Greece, then the resorts of Halkidiki and those located along the coast of the Peloponnese are ideal for family holidays with kids. It is there that the shallow sea, golden, clean sand, maximum amenities await you.

How to choose a hotel for family vacations

When going to Greece with children, carefully select not only the resort, but also the hotel for your stay. A good establishment should have:

  • Family cottages with garden and lawn.
  • Sports facilities.
  • Babysitting services, instructors for training on the water.
  • Children's playroom.
  • A pool designed especially for toddlers.
  • The sandy beach is nearby.
  • Children's menu in a cafe or restaurant.

And now we can talk about seasonal vacations. Indeed, at different times in Greece, the situation is different. And September for vacation is the best option.

Where is the best place to relax in Greece in September

This month is chosen by many tourists from all over the world. Therefore, do not expect calmness and regularity at the resorts. The weather is warm, but the sweltering heat is gone during the day. The air temperature is around 27 degrees. It's not too cold at night. The temperature is approximately 18 degrees. The sea water along the entire coast of the country has not yet cooled down. Its temperature is about 24 degrees - excellent conditions for swimming. Thus, if you are interested in the answer to the question of where is the best place to relax in Greece in September, then you can choose any place. Climatic conditions are favorable for this.

June - mainland month

This is how Greece is! Where is the best place to relax in June? After all, it is in this month that most Russians are waiting for their vacation. It is recommended to choose an area with a temperate climate. Such, for example, is the Halkidiki peninsula. The sea is already warming up enough, the air temperature during the day is at around 30 degrees. And a beach holiday during this period is preferable, as it is too hot for excursions.

Finally

Greece resembles a huge book with an old hardcover. You want to leaf through it, study it, and there are so many pages in it that you can always find something amazing and unknown.

Date of publication:

If your vacation is in June, spend it in Greece! This amazing country is rich in gorgeous natural landscapes, has many ancient architectural monuments and every self-respecting traveler should visit Greece at least once. Why in June? At this time, the weather in Greece is the most favorable for recreation - the sea is already warm, but the air temperature has not yet reached its maximum and is kept within comfortable values, and the cloudless sky will always be your companion. Therefore, June is a great time for swimming.

Where to go for a vacation in June? Magic Greece - our advice!

In addition, at this time there is still no influx of tourists, respectively, the prices (for food, excursions, accommodation, transportation, souvenirs, etc.) are mostly very reasonable. Feel free to go on excursions - on trips you will not be hot at all. If your children are schoolchildren, then it is in June that they will regain their strength after tiring everyday life at the desk.

In general, Greece is a very versatile country for tourists, here you can arrange a romantic trip and relax in a calm family circle. Fans of fashionable parties and fiery discos will also find interesting leisure options. Tourists of any income come to Greece - you can settle in a luxury villa or in more affordable apartments. A warm and cordial welcome awaits you everywhere.

Which Greek resort to choose for a trip in June?

So, the decision is made: we're going in June to Greece! The point, it would seem, is small - to choose a resort. But this is not so easy: even experienced travelers in Greece hesitate for a long time before choosing a destination. The resorts of the country of Socrates are conventionally divided by geographic location (on the mainland and on the islands), according to which sea washes the coast (Ionian, Aegean or Mediterranean), as well as by internal infrastructure.

Northern greece

In the north of Greece, you are pleased with the warm Aegean Sea and the famous resorts: Thessaloniki, Kassandra, Sithonia, Athos and, of course, Kastoria.

Thessaloniki is one of the largest Greek cities and is called the capital of northern Greece. It is here that the international airport is located, and there are also many hotels and apartments of various levels of accessibility (from VIP and De Luxe categories to cozy rented apartments).

However, most of the resorts in northern Greece are concentrated in the area of the Halkidiki peninsula. The peninsula itself resembles a trident in shape, and its "teeth" are Sithonia, Kassandra and Athos (Agion-Oros). The main advantage of these places is that, unlike the southern islands, the territory of Halkidiki is buried in greenery even at the height of the summer season. Connoisseurs of quiet rest, couples with children will be able to go in June and have a great rest here. The peak of high temperatures on the peninsula is observed in the second half of July and August, but in June, when the sea is already warm enough, there is no strong heat yet.

Sithonia is a peninsula, the name of which, according to mythology, corresponds to the name of the son of Poseidon. The resort is famous for its cleanest sea and beautiful natural views. Here, in addition to hotels of various star levels, there is even a golf course, the only casino in Halkidiki (in the tourist hotel complex Porto Carras).

As elsewhere in Greece, the Sithonia peninsula has ancient cities (Toroni, Galipsos, Sarti, Singos and Derra) where unique archaeological sites can be seen. The best coast in Sithonia is the western one - from Neos Marmaras to Nikiti. Each of these villages is famous in its own way: Nikiti is a concentration of old houses with invariably red roofs, and Neos Marmaras is the center of nightlife in Sithonia.

All the beaches of the peninsula are covered with fine crumbly sand, and the forests are rich in pine trees. If you find yourself in Sithonia in June, be sure to look into the Vourvourou Bay, where the beach of the same name is located, which is considered the most exotic and beautiful on the peninsula. Here you will see crystal clear sea, picturesque coves and olive groves. Anthemus Sea Beach Hotel & Spa, Maria Elena Villas, Porto Carras Meliton Hotel, Lagomandra Beach are considered to be the best hotels in Sithonia. All these complexes offer a large selection of rooms, which allows you to choose options for both couples and those who wish to plunge into romance.

Holy Mount Athos is a place where the atmosphere of solitude and spirituality reigns. There are two dozen Orthodox monasteries here, among which there is the Russian Orthodox monastery of St. Panteleimon. It should be said that women are strictly prohibited from entering Athos, and even men can only visit the peninsula with special permission. However, you can always admire the scattering of pointed spiers and the architecture of the buildings from the sea.

In Sithonia, sea excursions to Athos start from almost any resort town, during which yachts come quite close to the peninsula. There is a visa regime on Mount Athos, you can get a visa for a limited number of days and it is issued, as a rule, to professors and students of theological specializations. Such precautions have their grounds, because it is here, in the capital of the monastic republic of Karis, that the Museum of Orthodox Christianity is located, which stores the most ancient icons, manuscripts and unique books. Given the specificity of the territory, there are not so many tourist hotels on the peninsula, they are located in 2 coastal towns of Ouranopoli (whose name translates as "heavenly city") and Neo Roda. The best among them are Alexandros Palace 5 *, Aristotels Hotel 4 *, Eagles Palace & Spa.

Among the Greek resorts, Kastoria is especially popular. This city is located on the shores of the mountain lake Orestiada and has a special appeal. Kastoria is the world center for the production of fur products. If you want to buy a high-quality and beautiful fur coat at the manufacturer's price, take a look at the Edika shopping center in Kastoria. About 80 thousand models of fur products are presented in 12 sales areas. As for the hotels, their choice is small, the best can be called Apollo Palace 5 *, Esperos Palace 4 *. It is better to choose rooms in hotels with a view of the lake. There are no beaches in Kastoria: it is not customary to swim in the lake, but there are wonderful opportunities for fishing.

Southern greece

The resort cities of southern Greece are considered to be Loutraki, Evia, Voulyagmeni, Glyfada and of course the island of Crete.

The most famous resort in this part of Greece, where, in our opinion, it is better to go in June, is Loutraki, it is located not far from Athens (80 km) and washed by the waters of the Gulf of Corinth. Despite the fact that the city is small, it is here that the largest casino in the Balkans (Club Hotel Casino Loutraki 5 *) is located. There are not many hotels here, they are built mainly along the coast. It should also be noted that most of the hotels in Loutraki are new or recently renovated. As entertainment, tourists are offered scuba diving, surfing, yachting, water skiing, motorcycles. The beaches in this resort are pebbly.

Loutraki in June and not only go to rest and recover, because there are many sources of healing mineral waters. There is also a hydrotherapy center in the city, where, combining with rest, you can undergo a course of medical procedures. The location of Loutraki will be appreciated by admirers of antiquity: this town is located quite close (a few tens of kilometers) from the main attractions of Greece: Ancient Corinth, Acropolis, Mycenae, Epidaurus, Delphi. In Loutraki, you can see the famous Byzantine and ancient temples, for example, the temple of the goddess Hera. Thus, this town is versatile in terms of tourist infrastructure.

In the suburbs of Athens (15-20 km) there are Glyfada and Vouliagmeni. Accommodation prices here during the season are always higher than in the rest of the resort Greece. Affected by the influence of the proximity of the capital. This area is a concentration of luxury five-star hotels, but not all of them can correspond to the declared star level. As for the beaches, they are sandy here. "Wild" beaches can not always boast cleanliness, unlike equipped ones (although renting sun loungers and umbrellas costs about 4 euros). Hotels with a 5 * category have their own beaches and provide such equipment free of charge. As for the sea, it is very clean in Glyfada and Vouliagmeni, as in all of Greece. Overall, the resorts boast excellent recreational and sports infrastructure. These resorts are also a great place for business tourism.

Video answer to the question: Where is the best place to go in June?

A film about a magical holiday in Crete

If the question "Where is the best place to go in June?" Your choice fell on the southern part of Greece, visit Crete. There are many resort towns and villages. The most developed and largest part with an excellent tourist infrastructure is the resort region in Crete Heraklion - there are many bars, large discos, comfortable hotels and beautiful beaches. There is an international airport and a seaport in Heraklion, which greatly facilitates the transfer to the place of residence. One of the main resorts of Crete is the village of Amoudara (8 km from Heraklion), which is famous for the fact that the Olympic Stadium with swimming pools is located nearby. If you want to join the local gastronomic flavor, then try the famous Cretan dish - khokhlya, which is prepared impeccably in the restaurants of Ammoudara. These are snails fried in a special way with the addition of rosemary.

Island Greece

Perhaps the most famous resorts in Greece are its islands. Corfu, Rhodes, Mykonos, Santorini are all places for a wonderful holiday, rich in experience and filled with comfort. The Greek Islands are an elite holiday destination, the best choice for where to go in June.

Going to Corfu? Make sure that the island is not called emerald for nothing - orange orchards, olive and lemon groves, cypress forests have been growing here for a long time. Most of the hotels on the island belong to the de luxe category. When it comes to culture and entertainment, few places can be compared to Corfu. Here you can see, for example, Spianad Square, which is unmatched in beauty in all of Greece. Corfu has many museums and about 800 ancient monasteries and churches. For tourists, golf clubs, tennis courts, diving centers have been built, you can ride a horse, visit a fitness club or a beauty salon, and for children there are children's clubs, water parks and playgrounds. The nightlife in Corfu is just as varied. The best places for lovers of bars and discos are Ipsos, Sidari, Moraitik and Messonghi.

But the island of Rhodes is a concentration of chic beaches and fashionable hotels. Here, in addition to standard entertainment establishments, there are many cozy, uncrowded places. Rhodes is washed by the waters of two seas at once - in the west of the Aegean, and in the east of the Mediterranean. This invaluable advantage can be appreciated by those who love variety. The west coast (Ialyssos, Ixia) will delight fans of windsurfing, because there are constant waves, but the east (Faliraki, Kallithea, Lindos, Kolimbia) is the best place for a traditional beach holiday, because the sea is always calm here, and there are many beautiful sandy beaches.

In general, Greece is a unique country for tourists. Every corner of it is rich in historical monuments, ancient cities, wonderful natural landscapes. Here, both couples and lovers of romantic quiet places, as well as those who cannot imagine rest without nighttime entertainments, can find a vacation to their liking. Having visited Greece once, you cannot deny yourself the pleasure of coming back here again.

Hurry up to book a tour to fully enjoy all the beauties of Greece in June, because the popularity of Mediterranean resorts among tourists from Russia is growing from year to year, and this may leave you without a choice.

A country like Greece annually attracts millions of tourists from all over the world. Amazing cuisine, amazing beaches, many cultural and historical monuments, attractions and beckons. It is Greece that is suitable for both families and nightlife lovers. It is interesting and exciting here both in summer and late autumn, when Greece gets rid of a large influx of tourists. Having determined for yourself what you want to get from your vacation (rest on the beach, hiking, excursions), you need to decide where it is better to go to Greece.

Spring Athens - the capital of Greece

If you like active rest, but do not want to crowd on the streets among many tourists, in the beginning of spring it is better to go to Athens. Real spring in Greece begins in March, when tangerines, oranges and other exotic trees bloom. There are still quite a few tourists, so there is an opportunity to really relax. The air temperature in this period of time in Greece does not drop below 20 degrees. And the aroma of blooming almonds is in the air.

The excursion season in Greece opens in spring. But where to go in the capital in the first place? Of course, this is the Acropolis. Initially, when it was conceived, the palace of the emperors was located on the Acropolis hill. But already in the 7th century BC, its big restructuring began. So, the first stone was laid for the construction of the Parthenon temple. Its peculiarity is that looking at it from any point, it can be seen in volume. The columns are erected at a certain angle and in certain places. So, each tourist will observe three walls at the same time.

Further, be sure to go to the ruins of the Dionysus Theater, where buses run regularly. This is an open-air theater of antiquity. Back in the 5th century BC, it was just a wooden stage where local celebrations were held. The excellent acoustics of the room is surprising. Today even tourists are encouraged to check this indicator. One of the people remains below, the other ascends to the very last row. And they start to communicate. The audibility is excellent even today.

The ancient market square in Athens is the Agora. It is worth going here to see the temple of Hephaestus. Agora is translated from the ancient language as “to gather”. Indeed, it was a gathering and meeting place for local residents. Among other beautiful and unique sights of Greece in Athens, the following are worth noting:

  • Temple of Zeus;
  • Tower of Winds;
  • Hadrian's Library;
  • Byzantine Museum;
  • Odeon of Attica;
  • Parthenon;
  • Plaka quarter.

Popular islands of Greece

Many travelers are attracted by the islands, of which Greece has an uncountable number. But when is it better to go there? Already in April, the air temperature warms up to 25-27 degrees, and the water temperature does not drop below 20 degrees. Therefore, you can safely go to any of the islands from mid-April. During this period, the country is rich in numerous fruits. Traditionally, Greece celebrates Easter in April. And this is the main holiday of the year among local residents. Therefore, we can say with confidence that you will not be bored.

First of all, let's note the Greek island of Rhodes. You will get a huge amount of pleasant impressions from spending your holidays on local beaches. And even the rocky landscapes of the island do not make it less attractive for lovers of passive beach recreation. Rhodes is washed by the Aegean and Mediterranean seas. The last sea is slightly colder, and the beaches of this part of the island are predominantly sandy.

Faliraki beach has the cleanest water and air. It stretches along the coast for as much as five kilometers. There are many hotels almost on the shore of this beach, so you can comfortably stay. The territory is equipped with a water park, water slides and attractions for children and adults. The sandy beach of Lindos, located in the bay, is very popular. There are many cafes on the shore where you can buy refreshing drinks. For a comfortable stay there are sun loungers here. Therefore, you can go here even without special equipment.

When you are tired of the daily hustle and bustle, worries and troubles, the beach of Kolimbia in Rhodes in Greece will save you. This is a paradise for seclusion, where you need to go for relaxation and silence. Here you will relax not only physically, but also mentally. The mountainous landscapes of the coast give a special atmosphere to the area. For active recreation at the sea, it is worth choosing the pebble beaches of Rhodes - Ixia, Yalios. Here they are mainly engaged in surfing, scuba diving.

Crete is considered an equally remarkable island, where all the rich go. The beach season here begins in April and lasts until the end of November. The island is washed by three seas at once (Libyan, Cretan, Ionian). Almost all the beaches of the island of Greece have been awarded the Blue Flag. The resort areas of Crete are:

  • Rethymno;
  • Heraklio;
  • Lassithi;
  • Chania.

It is worth going here for the impressions of outdoor activities. It is better to start your journey from the Palace of Knossos in Greece. It is this territory that is also famous as the labyrinth of the Minotaur. Numerous labyrinths and confusion of paths can really baffle any tourist. In the mountains of Crete, tourists are led through the caves. The island has a huge number of ancient cathedrals and monasteries.

The island of Mykonos is considered the center of Greece's bustling nightlife. You need to go here in large companies for the club music atmosphere, when after midnight everything shines with millions of lights. A large number of brand boutiques and shops are located here. Several nudist beaches are found on the island of Mykonos in Greece. But you can get a full family vacation on the island of Halkidiki.

Zakynthos postcard island

If you still have not decided where to go for impressions in Greece, feel free to choose the island of Zakynthos. It is less well-known, the number of tourists is also slightly lower. It is washed by the waters of the Ionian Sea. You can see it on almost any postcard in Greece, because its views are mesmerizing - it is surrounded on all sides by forests and washed by azure waters. There are a large number of villages in the territory of Zakynthos. When you get here, you will immediately be enveloped in a pleasant orange scent. After all, there are whole plantations and groves of these citrus trees.

Where to go first? Many advise to immediately go to the capital of the island of the same name. In 1953, there was a terrible earthquake that could completely wipe out the city to the face of the earth. But, at a rapid pace, the locals and the Greek government rebuilt the capital. But there are practically no old and ancient buildings left here. The surviving architectural structures of antiquity can be seen in the Old City.

From anywhere in the city you can enjoy an excellent panoramic view - white cliffs, golden shores, rich vegetation, wide beaches. The bay of Navayo in Greece is of indescribable beauty. Its name translates as "shipwreck". One story contributed to this name of the area. In 1980, a ship carrying contraband products ran aground. Since then, it has become a symbol of the bay. Unfortunately, it is impossible to get to its golden beach from the shore. You can swim in emerald water only by sailing on a boat or boat from the sea.

Where to go next? The most beautiful places on the island in Greece are not the creations of human hands, but of nature. It is also worth going to the Blue Caves. High stone arches and numerous grottoes proudly rise above the water surface. It's better to see it with your own eyes. The waters in these caves are rich in calcium and many minerals. Therefore, they are considered medicinal. Another visiting card of the island and the whole of Greece can be safely called the Askos Stone Reserve. There are many rare animals, birds and plants.

Kastoria - the pearl of Greece

The popular resort town of Kastoria is located in the north of Greece. This is the place to go to see the most beautiful nature. It is located at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level. The main attraction is Lake Orestiada, which is definitely worth visiting. The city has a large number of churches, as it is recognized as the religious center of Greece. The most famous since Byzantium are the following:

  • Temple of the Holy Mother of God Mavriotis;
  • Church of Saints Unrebrenikov;
  • Church of St. Athos in Greece;
  • Cathedral of the Archangel.

Kastoria has no noisy beaches and nightclubs. It is better to go here for other impressions - merging with nature. This territory of Greece has amazing peace and quiet, despite the fact that it is a full-fledged city, not a village. Many cafes and small restaurants will delight you with local cuisine, at fairly reasonable prices.

Rest on the lake is presented in the form of fishing, water rowing, sailing. Rather massive mountains offer skiing in winter. The Kastorian Open Theater presents various theatrical performances every day. But is it better to go to Kastoria? Of course, this is the spring-summer period. It is then that you can go shopping for which Greece is famous.

It is shopping that plays an important role for the tourist infrastructure of the city. You will ask why? It's simple - Kastoria is engaged in the production of fur coats and other fur products. The quality of these products is excellent. Brands such as "Alessandro Bosso" and "Avanti" are famous all over the world. In this city of Greece, the most grandiose exhibition hall of furs was erected - Edika. Fur coat exhibitions are held in May. Therefore, at the end of spring, Greece is rapidly filled with tourists from all over the world.

Resorts in Greece for Seniors

Where is the best place to rest in Greece for the elderly? Aged travelers love the small seaside resort villages with comfortable beaches, restaurants, cafes and parks.

Resorts where you can have a good rest in Greece in 2020 are located on the mainland and islands. These are Thessaloniki, Peloponnese and the Cretan town of Rethymno. Elderly tourists love Loutraki Spa Resort. It is located 80 km from Athens and is famous for its healing radon springs. These places will appeal to those who value silence, beautiful nature and calm rest.

For a leisurely holiday by the sea in Greece, Corfu is good. Previously, only wealthy tourists came here, but now there are enough budget hotels and apartments on the island.

It is difficult to find a traveler who would be completely indifferent to the ancient beauties of Greece, to its beaches and transparent sea, aromatic coffee and spicy cuisine, perky dances and unreal sunsets. The country is accustomed to the attention of tourists, knows how to receive them, and offers people with different budgets and capabilities to relax.

In the past few years, when the economy of Hellas has not only faltered, but rather dangerously "frozen", the prices for vacations have gone down sharply. However, the problems did not affect the quality of the rest. The only inconvenience for tourists, it is better to come here with cash, there is often a complete emptiness in ATMs.

All the numerous ruins and museums are in their places, the sun is still warm and gentle, and the sea is transparent. You can make a Schengen visa yourself by adding a completed application form, insurance, tickets and a hotel reservation to your passport (35 euros will be asked for a visa). Everything is fine? Let's fly!

Budget season

For modern Greeks, tourism is the only straw that saves the country from complete economic collapse. This circumstance forces us to keep rather high prices for accommodation and other services during the “high” season. It starts in early June (prices in May are already different from April!) And lasts until early September (in September, prices are slightly lower, but not yet the most budgetary). It is expensive to vacation in Greece in January (Christmas is a popular time for tourists).

For those who consider only beach pleasures a real vacation, it is best to come to Hellas in April or in the second half of September. And for those who come to Greece for the sake of ancient antiquities, the best time is October-November or February-March. At this time, air tickets will be the cheapest.

The Acropolis of Athens is a rocky hill with a gentle summit.

Road

The cheapest flight from Moscow to Kos, Crete or Rhodes will cost about 190-250 euros. These are Ellinair ticket prices outside the tourist season. The ticket price can be significantly lower if you fly from Vilnius or Kaunas, which can be reached by bus or your own car. A plane ticket costs from 120 euros in both directions (Rhodes, Athens), which is cheaper even taking into account a bus ticket to Vilnius from Moscow. The secret of cheap tickets is simple - from Kaunas and Vilnius direct flights to Greece are provided by the RYANAIR company, known for its budget prices.

You can save even more on travel costs if you try to get on a charter flight that caters to tourists who have bought tours. You can apply for a ticket to any large company. In this case, the ticket will cost hardly more than a hundred euros in both directions. But this way of traveling is unreliable. There may be no vacant seats, or there may be no departure on the required day.

Optimal housing option: hotel or apartment, guest house or apartment?

Resort housing is expensive in any country. In Greece, it all depends on how close the hotel or apartment is to the sea. Outside the season, a double room in a mid-range hotel will cost no more than 30 euros. In a hotel of a higher category, a double room with breakfast costs from 45 euros / day (half board - from 65 euros).

Weekly housing costs will not exceed 100-120 euros (provided that the sea is more than 300 meters) if you rent an apartment or live in a family guesthouse - this is the most budget option.

Restaurants, cafes, taverns, supermarkets: cuisine features, food and grocery prices

The Greeks have always loved to eat well. Restaurants delight customers with huge portions, low prices and very tasty dishes.

In Greece, you should definitely try:

  • moussaku - a type of "lasagna", where layers of eggplant;
  • fried sardines;
  • octopuses;
  • dzatziki is a thick garlic yoghurt sauce.

Of the drinks, besides a wide variety of wines of excellent quality, you will not be able to do without:

  • ouzo - anise brandy;
  • retsiny - wine with the scent of pine resin.

As elsewhere abroad, you need to choose those catering establishments that are designed for local residents. In resort areas it is not easy, here every eatery counts on wealthy and generous visitors. The main rule when choosing a cafe or restaurant in Greece - the farther from the sea, the cheaper. At the same time, the quality of the dishes is the same.

If you make it a rule not to eat on the beach and next to it (it is worth walking 700-800 meters from the sea), then your lunch or dinner with wine will cost no more than 7-9 euros per person.

Self-catering in an inexpensive apartment in a resort town or village is even more sparing for the budget. A trip to the supermarket (or market) and a week's supply of food for a family of three - 60-70 euros. Considering that you will only use olive oil, and fruits will be a must-have for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Antique sights, natural parks, nightclubs - what to choose?

Several volumes can be written about tourist opportunities and attractions. In our case, we will stop at the resorts of Northern Greece, as well as on several islands of the archipelago, where rest is the cheapest, and the possibilities are not inferior to the most "promoted" resorts.

On the mainland

Northern Greece is a combination of sea air and the scent of pine forests, beaches and monasteries, antique ruins and modern nightclubs. The Peloponnese is proud of its many monuments of the most ancient civilization on the continent, beaches, nightlife and opportunities for ecological tourism. Here you can improve your health, relax with taste, learn about fifty myths and legends and take with you the most pleasant memories of shopping.

Among the budget resorts of mainland Greece, one can especially highlight:

  • Halkidiki - of the "three teeth" of the peninsula, the most budgetary vacation is possible in Sithonia (middle tooth), from the sights it is worth paying attention to Mount Olympus, Zeus's hometown Dion, caves, a monastery on Mount Athos, the monastery of St. cultural attractions - from 50 euros, a three-day tour - 175-200 euros);
  • The Peloponnese is a large peninsula in the southern part of Hellas, the best places for recreation are the Gulf of Corinth, Laconia region. You need to see the ruins of the Olympic Stadium, the ruins of the Temple of Hera, ancient Corinth, the ruins of Sparta. Sightseeing tour - from 35 euros (three days - from 140 euros). The region is distinguished by a rich nightlife - the clubs TREZOR, SUMMER LIFE, WAVES will not let even the most discerning traveler get bored.

Islands

It is on the islands of the Greek archipelago that the most famous and popular resorts of Hellas are located. Most of them (Santorini, Mykonos, Lesvos, Samos, Rhodes) are characterized by high prices and a complete lack of budget housing. Wealthy businessmen, Hollywood stars and politicians with their families rest here.

You can save a lot if you have a rest on the islands:

  • Kos is a small island off the coast of Turkey. The homeland of Hippocrates - among the attractions - the ruins of an ancient hospital. Picturesque fishing villages, gourmet fish dishes in restaurants, surfing opportunities, many inexpensive villas and guest houses for tourists;
  • Crete is a large island with a pleasant warm climate, an abundance of comfortable beaches, an excellent place for windsurfing and horse riding lovers. The number of ancient monuments is huge. The size of the island allows you to make a week trip around it (tour - from 350 euros). Grottoes, caves, ancient royal palaces and labyrinths - the list of entertainment is far from complete;
  • Euboea is an island separated from Attica by a narrow strait. In addition to beaches, a warm sea and an abundance of attractions, you can undergo a course of mud therapy and other healing procedures (treatment in large centers can be very expensive, but there are many small spa hotels on the island where you can buy a course of procedures for 50-70 euros) ... It is from here that the easiest way to get to Athens on a one-day tour (from 50 euros).

Two words about the crisis

After 2012, Greece is struggling to overcome negative economic trends. The country is periodically shaken by bank crashes, problems in paying salaries to civil servants and other troubles.

Most of these problems do not affect tourists in any way, but you still need to know some rules:

  • ATMs, especially on the islands, are often empty, and it is not always possible to pay with a card in budget places. The way out is cash;
  • unemployment, especially in large cities, has contributed to the flourishing of petty crime - wallets, cameras and documents must be kept especially carefully;
  • in shops, and especially in markets, it is necessary to bargain until you are completely exhausted, only in this case you can achieve an adequate discount (experienced tourists never make any purchases in the first days of their vacation in Greece, only properly, after sunbathing on the beach, you can safely go shopping, sellers will be much more accommodating);
  • you can buy any tours exclusively at the offices of travel companies or in hotels. A voucher bought from a sociable guy on the street will turn into an ordinary loss of money, albeit small.

Excursions outside Greece

While resting in the North of Greece, you can go to, explore Sofia and Plovdiv. There are a lot of buses from Thessaloniki to the largest cities of the neighboring country. On the way - from 5 to 7 hours. Ticket - starting from 20 euros. If you are aiming to stay in Bulgaria for several days, then you should buy a ready-made tour in one of the hotels in Halkidiki or Thessaloniki - from 200 euros (includes meals and accommodation in a hostel - 3 days and two nights).

It is only a few kilometers from the island of Kos to Turkey. A tour of the sights of the western coast of Malaya (monuments of the era of Alexander the Great, picturesque bays of the Aegean Sea, the legendary baths of Diana) is very cheap. But in this case, it is necessary to clarify what kind of visa you have in your passport. Turkey is outside the Schengen area, it is possible that after leaving Greece, you will not be able to return there.

Since ancient times, hospitality has been the main distinguishing feature of the Greeks. This can be confirmed by tourists from all over the world. The traveler will always be helped to find the way to the attraction, they will advise a restaurant or cafe, in a small town or village they will definitely invite you for a cup of coffee, which may well turn into a hearty lunch.
