Samui

- Nightlife is not as vibrant as in Pattaya and Phuket.

Koh Phangan
A calm small island with snow-white and clean beaches. Ideal for a quiet family holiday. Only a few beaches host the famous Full Moon Party during the full moon, where large numbers of young people gather and dance all night long. The rest of the time the island lives a quiet, measured life. Therefore, Koh Phangan will be an ideal place for lovers of parties and parties, as well as for those who like a secluded and relaxing holiday.

Bangkok is a metropolis where life is in full swing 24 hours a day. There is a wide choice of attractions and entertainment. And shopping is simply paradise for the female half of humanity. Northern Thailand

When traveling to Thailand, do not forget to consider the rainy season. In Pattaya it is not pronounced, there is only high humidity and it becomes difficult to breathe, and the rains are short-lived and fall mainly at night. I would not recommend going to Koh Samui in the fall, as heavy rain can fall for a whole week without a break. And in Phuket in the summer there is a strong wind and big waves, so swimming in the sea at this time is unlikely to be possible.

For holidays with children, I can recommend Phuket, Krabi, Samui, Phangan or Hua Hin. But if your priority is not a beach holiday, but entertainment, then Pattaya is better suited, since it has the most entertainment places, including for children (water park, aquarium, attractions, zoos, etc.).

Excursion holidays are also aimed at little tourists; there are water parks, zoos, and various shows for kids. And of course, an abundance of fresh fruit and sun. The mysterious island of Koh Samui
Samui shares the pedestal of popularity among holidaymakers with Phuket. The island also has an airport for the convenience of travelers. But the islands still have differences. Firstly, the bodies of water washed by them and the location. Phuket is located in the very south of Thailand, close to the border with Malaysia and is washed by the Andaman Sea. Samui is a smaller island and is located east of the “elephant’s trunk”. Koh Samui is called the island of romance. There are noticeably fewer local settlements here, but nevertheless the nightlife and evening events are quite developed. There are also many restaurants on the island in the popular areas of Lamai and Chaweng, there are fewer excursions than in Phuket, but nevertheless there is something to see here. Diving and snorkeling are very developed. In general, Samui is an island for romantic trips, there are not many places where you can be active, and the island itself can be circled in 40 minutes.
From Samui you can take a ferry to another island, Koh Phangan, which is famous for its full moon parties, the so-called “Full Moon Parties”. Parties take place every 3 months; it is during these periods that the island becomes most popular. As a rule, they stay on the island for a couple of days to attend this event, and then return to Koh Samui or back to the mainland.
Elephant Island Koh Chang
The third place in popularity goes to the island with the symbolic name “Chang”, which means elephant in Thai. Koh Chang has quite mountainous terrain and a large number of beaches. It is generally accepted that Koh Chang Island is suitable for a more relaxing family holiday. There are no large shopping centers on the island. There are a lot of small restaurants for evening gatherings near each beach, but there are no real night discos on the island. The sea is quite clean; tourists are mainly attracted by bungalow-type hotels, because it is in a bungalow on the seashore that you can truly enjoy the relaxed holiday of Koh Chang.
Small “bounty” islands
Along with popular and populated islands, Thailand can offer travelers a completely serene holiday. As a rule, these are not large islands, often Thai national reserves. These are places where only hotels and beaches are located, nature remains virtually untouched, and local residents carefully take care of the flora and fauna, trying to preserve their pristine state. On such islands you will not find either shopping centers or discos; moreover, in some places, especially in bungalow-type hotels, the lights are turned off after 7 - 8 pm and torches with open fires are used as lighting devices.

But is this really so? We will try to answer this question based on our personal impressions received from each of the places described below.
It is quite likely that in many respects this is true, but we beg to differ. We agree with the first point, but only partly. Phuket is civilized - that’s for sure, let’s even say that it is too civilized and this is one of its disadvantages. There are not many tourists here, but a lot, with all the ensuing consequences - high prices, bustle, noise, the local population is not too happy with you, etc. We don’t know about you, but for us personally, flying halfway around the world in order to plunge from one city bustle into another is somehow not very good.
Well, calling the island’s beaches the best in Thailand is only a stretch; there’s definitely no talk of exotic beauty here. One of the most civilized and “tourism-friendly” - yes. Nature here doesn’t shine with its originality and exotic beauty, and mass tourism has done its dirty deed, practically burying it under its services. 
What else did mass tourism bring here – the notorious “Western values” and culture. The result of this is that the local population, for the most part, puts money at the forefront, in any case, they do everything to “squeeze out the money” to the maximum. Yes, a tourist in Phuket is a moneybag who does not deserve any respect. And we ourselves are to blame for this. 
Sorry, but such everyday rudeness, snobbery and lack of culture on the part of vacationers can hardly be found anywhere else in this country, unless Pattaya does not yield. But Phuket itself and its beaches are not so bad, however, everything about the island is in this section.

Koh Samui
Samui is many times better than the previous place. When looking through the islands of Thailand, deciding where to go, it should be preferred over many others. It can be called a universal island, here everyone can find a holiday to their liking - civil and almost wild beaches, parties and deserted silence, urban civilization and rural wilderness, all this coexists here. 
As for nature, it is simply magnificent. Of course, not a bounty, but tropical exoticism is present here. Again, the purity and clarity of sea water is not comparable to Phuket. You can snorkel tolerably and see some underwater beauty. However, you shouldn’t expect anything supernatural from snorkeling on Koh Samui. Read more about the beaches. 
Prices on the island are not the cheapest, but... It is quite large, and the tourism business tightly “occupied” only the north-eastern and eastern coasts, but in other areas they are more humane. There are many shops, including several supermarkets. In the latter, in addition to being able to buy everything you need, you can also eat deliciously and inexpensively. "Island" Krabi
No matter how sad and surprising this may sound to some, we will have to disappoint - Krabi is not an island, but one of the provinces of Thailand and it is located on the mainland. To put it mildly, there are also problems with the untouched and exotic nature here, and the beaches are not very suitable for swimming - shallow, the water is cloudy. It is likely that when they talk about the luxurious nature of Krabi, they mean the numerous islands located nearby and belonging to the same province. 
They are the main objects of numerous one-day excursion tours, and most often their photographs are cited as evidence of the beauty of Krabi. Almost all the islands are small and uninhabited; only a few have hotels, but not everyone can afford the prices of accommodation in them. In general, everything here would not be very fun for independent budget travelers, if not for Koh Lanta.

Strictly speaking, these are not one, but two islands - Ko Lanta Noi and Ko Lanta Yai. The first is inhabited exclusively by Thais and has absolutely no tourist infrastructure. The second is almost ideal for tourists craving a relaxing holiday, clean sea, beautiful beaches and nature. But let us immediately note that those who are interested in sightseeing holidays and all sorts of attractions should not come here, this is not here. 
Well, lovers of beach holidays will love Lanta in all its variants. It seems to us that the island is somewhat similar to Samui, but at the same time much calmer, provincially cute and very cozy. Take a quick look at its best beaches. 
Prices are not the lowest, but definitely lower than in neighboring Phuket and Krabi. There are no supermarkets, but there are many small shops and several large markets. There are no problems with food, as in any part of Thailand. 
One of the disadvantages is the small number of private housing available for long-term stays. But there are plenty of hotels - from bamboo bungalows to multi-star ones. The sea is clean, the water is transparent, but it is not necessary to take a mask and fins here; there is no snorkeling, however, as in all of Krabi.

Phi Phi Island
Thanks to active advertising from travel agencies, Phi Phi is almost associated with the Maldives. What can I say, the island is really beautiful and interesting, but it is clearly “over-promoted” and overpopulated with tourists, including package tourists. Personally, we liked it, but we would hardly stay there for more than 5-7 days, it was too crowded. 
By the way, there is an opinion that the island is very expensive to live in, both in terms of housing and food. We don’t know, it seemed to us that there are different price categories represented here. Of course, it’s more expensive than in neighboring Ko Lanta, but not more expensive than in Phuket in Karon and definitely cheaper than in Lipa.

Koh Lipe Island
Koh Lipe is one of the smallest tourist islands in Thailand, but at the same time one of the best, at least not so long ago it was, and it is gaining popularity very quickly. It is located within the Tarutao Marine Natural Park, which already says a lot. 
The size of Koh Lipe is not at all large, no larger than any of the Gili Islands in Indonesia (by the way, we highly recommend visiting them) and one hour is enough to walk around its perimeter. But this does not mean at all that there is nothing to do there; lovers of beach holidays and nature have something to please themselves with. 
There are enough hotels here, and... The island is small, from any of them there are literally a few steps to the sea. But, if you are going to this piece of paradise, book your accommodation in advance via the Internet.
The sand on the Lipe beaches (there are 4 in total) is coral and snow-white, which means the water is very clear, with beautiful turquoise and emerald shades, which is the best way to spend the whole day there, from dawn to dusk.

Once upon a time, while making a kayaking trip around the uninhabited islands of the reserve, among other pleasures, we received an unforgettably vivid impression of snorkeling in these waters. In our opinion, the underwater world here is one of the most beautiful in Thailand.

If you are in search of good beaches, clean sea and bounty landscapes, some dashing wind has brought you to Pattaya and you are full of despair, looking at the surrounding reality, do not become despondent, your vacation can still be saved - go to the island of Ko Kood, located nearby . 
Of course, if you arrived having bought a tour, then everything is more complicated, because the money for the hotel has already been paid, but even in this case you can please yourself, at least a little - you can buy at least a two-day excursion; in Pattaya they are offered everywhere. Ko Kood is a tiny, quiet island with wonderful beaches and tropical nature. The tourism business is gradually “taking it into its hands” and the island is changing not for the better, but we found it still like that.
