oneworld alliance companies. Aviation alliances: SkyTeam, Star Alliance, Oneworld

Today we will tell you in detail about the second of the three major world alliances, Oneworld.

INOneworldincludedairberlin, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN, Mexicana, Qantas, Royal Jordanian, S7 Airlines.

http://www.oneworld.com/member-airlines/

Oneworld's major partner in Asia is Cathay Pacific. IN North America American Airlines. In Europe British Airway. Each company in the alliance has its own secrets. oProper use of the alliance will make it possible to make the most profitable use of the accumulated miles.

Oneworld also has a Russian participant - S7 or, as they are often called in the old fashioned way, Siberia. S7 is not a large airline by world standards, but participation in the alliance gives it great opportunities. S7 has bases (hubs) in Moscow, Irkutsk and Novosibirsk, and for the frequent-flying reader living in the former CIS, S7 is most likely the most interesting airline. Their miles are useless, but using miles from other alliance members to receive award flights on S7 flights is very profitable, especially considering the extremely low tax fees.

In our extensive experience, the most useful Oneworld miles are British Airways and American. American Airlines has a geographically regional award table (just like United in Star Alliance) and they charge minimal taxes when receiving an award ticket. As we wrote before, these taxes are often so high that they call into question the rationality of using miles to purchase a ticket. Accordingly, you can fly from Moscow to New York for 60,000 American Airlines miles (and in the off-season for 40,000) and fees of about 60 dollars. I want to compare with AirFrance where the same ticket costs 50,000 AirFrance miles and 500 dollars in taxes (AirFrance has many advantages which we will talk about later).

British Airways (like ANA in the Star Alliance) base their award prices on the actual distance between origin and destination (regardless of region). This makes it possible to make short flights (ideally non-stop) with the fewest miles required. Thus, a flight C7 Beijing-Ekaterinburg costs only 20,000 British Airways miles. The same flight would cost 40,000 American Airlines miles since Beijing is in the Asian region, and Yekaterinburg is in the European region.

Don't forget that British Airways is only profitable for short flights (the number of miles required for a flight is not based on the distance between where and where you are flying), but for long intercontinental flights, it is better to collect miles from other partners, such as American Airlines. (We'll write more about the secrets of British Airways later.) For example, you can fly American Airlines, collect miles on British Airways, and spend those miles on S7.

INOneworldThere is three status: Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. We will tell you how to get Oneworld status later.

oneworld was created in 1999 and became the second international aviation alliance in the world after. Now it is the third largest alliance, uniting 13 airlines from different parts of the world. Russia is represented in oneworld by S7 Airlines, the second largest carrier in the country by fleet and route network. The founders of the alliance were American Airlines (USA), British Airways (UK), Canadian Airlines (Canada), Cathay Pacific (Hong Kong) and QANTAS (Australia).

The main thing you need to know about the oneworld alliance:

Although the alliance loses in the number of participants (26 airlines) and (20 airlines), in terms of the overall size of the fleet and the number of destinations, it is almost on a par with Skyteam. Largely due to the fact that the key airlines of the alliance are the huge fleet size of American and the large Qatar Airways, British Airways, QANTAS and LATAM.

If we talk about airlines from Europe, there are only three of them in oneworld:

  • British British Airways
  • Finnish;
  • and Spanish Iberia.

Russia is represented in oneworld by S7 Airlines, which, before joining the international alliance, significantly improved the quality of service, updated its aircraft fleet, replacing outdated Soviet aircraft with modern Airbus, Boeing and Embraer airliners. Now the carrier fully complies with all international standards of safety and quality of service.

It is possible that over time another carrier from Russia will appear in oneworld, but for now the alliance is announcing its plans to expand its presence in other regions - especially in Africa and China. Oneworld is now practically not represented there, unlike Star Alliance and SkyTeam.

oneworld member airline bonus programs

There is no oneworld branded rewards program, however all participating airlines recognize rewards points from other alliance partners. It is enough to register in one bonus program of any of the alliance members and accumulate points from any flights made on oneworld member flights into this bonus account.

Accumulated points can also be spent on services of any airline of the alliance. And this is what the list of privileges looks like, which opens to members of the oneworld bonus program:

The main thing is that registration in several programs of different carriers is not required - it’s convenient!

And another one distinctive feature oneworld alliance bonus program. You can accumulate points not only on flights of full members of the alliance, but also on affiliated airlines (usually subsidiaries of a particular carrier).

oneworld: safety and incidents

Today, oneworld has very strict requirements for its member airlines. Security standards are the same for the entire alliance. Before joining, each airline undergoes a series of serious certification procedures. They show its compliance with requirements and standards.

Each air carrier applying for entry into oneworld undergoes an external audit. It includes a 118-point audit of the company. Most of them are related to security.

We searched international aircraft accident databases to find all fatalities involving oneworld member airlines.

  • American Airlines has had two plane crashes since it joined oneworld. Two planes carrying passengers were destroyed on September 11, 2001 during the terrorist attacks in New York. And in November of the same year, an Airbus A300 crashed - the tail stabilizer fell off the plane. 260 people on board died.
  • In July 2007 Airbus An A320 of LAN Brasil (now LATAM Airlines Brasil) skidded off the runway while landing in Sao Paulo and crashed into a warehouse building. All 187 passengers were killed, as well as the crew and 12 people on the ground.
  • In August 2011, a Boeing 737 operated by LAN Colombia (now LATAM Airlines Colombia) crashed during landing. 2 people died, 114 were injured. The cause of the disaster was a lightning strike on the plane.
  • Two disasters in 2014 happened to Malaysia Airlines airliners. In March, flight MH370, operated by a Boeing 777, disappeared from radar screens. There were 239 passengers on board. Even the approximate location of the plane crash is still unknown. The second airliner (also a Boeing 777) was shot down in July of the same year in the skies over Ukraine. 298 people on board were killed.

Note! We analyzed accidents with planes of one or another airline only from the moment it joined the alliance! We only took into account incidents that resulted in the death of passengers.

There have also been several crashes and deaths of aircraft from different airlines, but there were no deaths of passengers or people on the ground. Disasters with S7 Airlines airliners happened long before the airline joined the alliance.

oneworld development prospects

For all international alliances, one of the most promising markets now is Indian. oneworld is not currently represented there. The alliance also does not have African airlines or frequent flights to African countries. It is logical to assume that these are the main directions of development of the alliance.

On the other hand, oneworld has a strong presence in most countries Latin America, thanks to LATAM airline. And in Asia by Malaysia Airlines and SriLankan.

Perhaps in the near future one or more airlines from Europe will join the alliance. And in 2018 it is expected to join the alliance national airline Republic of Fiji - Fiji Airlines (formerly Air Pacific).

Every year we flew with S7 airlines to Verona for a ski trip

a gurney, and not only to Verona. We're kind of their regular clients. Typically large
group of several families. The company provided free transportation
sports luggage, namely: skis, ski poles or snowboards, sportswear
clothes, helmet, glasses, etc. There were no problems, except that they spoiled me twice
bugs Once a sports bag got holes through it, rubbed through by something...
holes (the bag costs about $500), they made a hole in the suitcase a second time
Samsonite, we specifically bought lightweight, expensive suitcases for travel
(cost approximately $700). Both times these facts were recorded in
airport after receiving luggage, they were told to contact S7 airline, they said that our
the appeal is considered, after a few months they continue again
consider, in a word, complete rudeness and disregard for clients, now
I will go to court and see the result.
But
all these stories could be considered force majeure, well, it doesn’t happen to anyone, they could
spoil luggage during transportation at the airport, on the conveyor belt, during transshipment, etc.
What does S7 airline have to do with it!?
But
what really got the job done was something else - these are specific scams that the air carrier
practices. Let me give you an example: we are flying as a family, five people, three children, with an infant.
a 6-month-old child, we are invited to register without waiting in line, it’s nice.....
We ask the girl who is not registered to seat my wife and I together so that there is
the opportunity to help her with the child. The girl looks at us with emotion and
invites us to pay extra and fly business class, explains that the extra payment is small,
but it will be very convenient with a child. We
We figure it out and decide to leave the older children in the main cabin and fly ourselves
in business. We quickly redirected to another window to pay extra, we
we approach, pay extra for business class, a nice girl checks us in for the flight,
We get boarding tickets and go to boarding joyfully. We go into the salon and let you in
older children ahead and begin searching for our seats in business class, anticipating
unforgettable impressions of the flight, we can’t understand where these heavenly places are,
We block the passage for all passengers. The flight attendant comes up and sweetly says that
Our seats are not in business class, but right behind it. We show receipts
We try to explain everything, to which we are told that all the seats are occupied, and upon arrival at
airport, you can decide everything with a representative of S7 airline. Well, don’t make a scandal on the plane, otherwise
They’ll also accuse you of terrorism, let’s go to our seats, it turns out this bitch is at the counter
registration also put us in different places. Thanks to the neighbors who came
to meet us and switch places so that the baby and I have the opportunity
sit nearby. We arrive, and they tell us that the surcharge for seats was increased
comfort, although this is not written anywhere and if we were against it, we could not
fly!!! How is that? Ask to be taken off the flight, to take out our luggage??? How is that??? A
Now, they say, go away, you used the service, so the question is settled. But that's not all the adventures with the airline
S7.
In 2018
this year we are flying to ski in Verona, as I wrote above, equipment is offered
for transportation free of charge. We bought special backpacks for boots, helmets,
sportswear, etc. We fly without skis, we rent them. At registration
a well-fed aunty lets one such bag through, which is leaving for loading,
when we lay out the second backpack she asks: “What’s in it?”, we answer that
boots, helmets, glasses and sportswear. She says that this luggage is necessary
pay extra because free transportation offered
exclusively: boots, skis, helmet, goggles and nothing about sportswear
written because they changed the transportation rules. Sorry, this is not our first flight.
a year, before it was possible, now it’s impossible, then why was one bag allowed through? One
in a word, the aunt starts yelling, calling some big guy for help. Good that
I found a correspondence on the phone with the support service of this wonderful airline S7, where it was written that
sportswear is allowed, and the address from which I received this letter is
S7 airline customer support service address. The gloomy man looked at the answer
his airline reluctantly gives the go-ahead for our luggage to pass through.
Do you think
this is all? NO.
We order
with friends tickets for 2019, I’m not a fool, I’m writing a request to the support service,
Can sportswear be carried or not? Well for next time
Show this letter to the evil auntie at registration. They answer that it is possible, we are booking
tickets. How thoughtful am I, right? Hera!!! This year at registration we
they say that they will not accept our sports bags for free, since we are flying without
skis and ski poles!!! That is, we have a shortage!!! They have it written that
free skis, poles, sportswear, helmet there, and since we don’t have skis,
pay!!! So who is smart??? Who is the best money maker in the world??? This -
S7 AIRLINE! Guys
creative! And they send us to a company representative who says that
now it’s like that, but what we didn’t understand is our problems! My letter about sports
doesn't roll clothes, it's about skiing
there is nothing! I write a complaint, they register it and send me on my way
difficult, expensive, difficult. Backpacks are not suitcases, so we pack away the extra weight
for suitcases, thank God, space and weight allowed. For 1500 rubles we wrap two
bags are wrapped in film and checked in as one baggage.
But the most
wildness is the mocking response from S7 airline to my claim, which I received today! It turns out I
I could have done all this for free, but in fact I paid for the luggage myself, and since now
It is not possible to determine its contents... go along the difficult road,
expensive and difficult. LIKE THIS!!!
I often
flew with this airline, not only that, my friends flew with me, several times
once a year. Guess which airline I'm flying with my friends to ski
in 2020? Right!!! ANOTHER!!!
I don't
I say that every time I came across this, but this is an extreme case.....
from now on without me.
Like
the theater begins with the hanger, your vacation begins with the air flight! If you want to,
so that your holiday begins with a good mood, and not with an unpleasant aftertaste
to the soul of a person who has once again been scammed, choose another airline!!!

Aviation alliances are one of the main concepts that any tourist should know. I will try to briefly explain why this knowledge will help you save on flights.

Three global aviation alliances

Currently, there are three global airline alliances in the world: SkyTeam, Star Alliance, Oneworld.

Airlines join alliances to reduce air travel costs, optimize business processes and increase passenger traffic. But all this is not entirely interesting to us ordinary passengers.

Airlines within the alliance unify the following elements:

— booking system

bonus programs for passengers

- introducing codeshare flights

— coordinate the flight schedule.

Simply put, when organizing connecting flights, it is easier, cheaper and more convenient to fly on planes of the same aviation alliance. When organizing my trips to Asia, the USA, Europe and other destinations, I always use flights only within the framework of one airline alliance, thanks to which I have already saved a lot of money.

Let's get to know all the alliances better.

SkyTeam Airline Alliance (SkyTeam)

It is the second largest aviation alliance in the world. I can say for sure that Russians and especially residents Far East Most often they use his services. After all, the alliance includes Aeroflot - Russian Airlines and KoreanAir, widely represented in Vladivostok.

In addition to them, the alliance includes the following airlines:

Europe:

Air Europa

Air France(Air France)

Alitalia (Alitalia)

CSA - CzechAirlines (CHSA - Czech Airlines)

Asia:

ChinaEasternAirlines (Chinese Eastern Airlines)

China Southern Airlines

Garuda Indonesia Airways (GarudaIndonesia)

Vietnam Airlines

Xiamen Airlines

America:

Aerolineas Argentinas (Argentina Airlines)

Aeromexico (Aeromexico)

Delta Air Lines

Africa and Middle East:

Kenya Airways

Saudi Arabian Airlines

Tarom

I think that SkyTeam (SkyTeam) is especially well suited Russian passengers when organizing flights within Europe.

Oneworld Airlines Alliance (Van Weerld)

So far this is the smallest aviation alliance, but it is rapidly gaining momentum. I have already flown on alliance planes several times, and I especially want to note profitable offer, which can be used by its clients.

In Russia, S7 Airlines, which is also actively represented in Vladivostok, recently became a member of the alliance.

Other members of the alliance:

Europe:

Air Berlin

British Airways

Iberia (Iberia)

Finnair

Asia:

Cathay Pacific

JapanAirlines - JAL (Japanese Airlines - JAL)

MalaysiaAirlines

SriLankanAirlines

America:

AmericanAirlines

LANAirlines (LAN Airlines)

Mexicana (Mexican)

TAMLinhasAereas (TAM Airlines)

USAirways (US Airways)

Australia and Middle East:

Qantas

QatarAirways (Qatar Airways)

RoyalJordanianAirlines

In my opinion, Oneworld is very good for flying around Asia and the US.

Airline alliance Star Alliance (Star Alliance)

It is the oldest and largest airline alliance in the world, but I put it last in my review. This is due to the fact that so far no Russian airline does not participate in this alliance.

Alliance members:

Europe:

Adria Airways (Adria Airways)

Aegean Airlines

AustrianAirlines

BrusselsAirlines (Brussels Airlines)

CroatiaAirlines

LOTPolishAirlines (LOT Polish Airlines)

Lufthansa (Lufthansa)

SAS - ScandinavianAirlines (SAS - Scandinavian Airlines)

Spanair

Swiss International Air Lines

TAP Portugal

Turkish Airlines

Asia:

Air China

Thai Airways

Singapore Airlines

All Nippon Airways(AllNipponAirways)

Asiana Airlines

Eva Air (EvaAir)

America:

AirCanada (Air Canada)

UnitedAirlines

Australia, New Zealand, Africa:

Air New Zealand(Air New Zealand)

Egyptair

Ethiopian Airlines

South African Airways

The coverage of the alliance allows you to plan flights with its help to almost any part of the world.

The most important
